Best Slot 1 device?

My understanding is that the R4 uses a pic type chip and is not upgradable.. Cheats are not game guides and the supercard ds one has recently been upgraded with homebrew reset which the R4 does not have... Additionally it also defaults to 512KB saves like the R4 but can be set with proper save sizes via the ndsrominfo.dat or manually to save space. I still wonder why people think the R4 is the best cart.. most are equal in compatibility but some have additional flexibility and functionality. Never having used a Cyclo DS I'm not too sure of its plus points, but it seems to be gaining popularity but if price is the factor, N-cards are cheap and have 100% compatibility without slowdowns which both SCDS1and R4 suffer from if using slow memory cards in certain games, Download play has also been improved.

Thanks everyone for the info!

I might just get the R4. It sounds great! And download play to unmodded DS's is fantastic. Need to find a good UK site that will get it to me at the cheapest price.

Frequent upgrades ftw! Goodbye Supercard SD!

I have had and USED the Supercard DS, G6 Real, DSLink, DS-Xtreme,Ewin and out of all those the R4/M3 Simply is in my opinion the best. Hell I think the only 2 slot 1 cards I have not personally used is the CycloDS and whatever clone N-card your talking about. According to the R4 website the R4 is kernal, bios and system upgradeable. They have released numerous software upgrades to make it perform in every way other mod carts do so im sure reset in homebrew will be added though I can't see it being a huge priority. You talk about the Supercard DS getting updates to do what the R4 can so doesn't reason tell you the R4 will also add updates to do anything the Supercard DS can do?

Also ANY slot 1 that uses microSD will have slow downs if you use a slow cheap microSD just like the slot 2 cards. Im pretty sure everyone in the scene is aware of that and everyone uses the proper speed cards, this was made fact and people were educated on which speed microSD cards to use about a year ago when the SuperCard Lite and M3 Lite came out.

By the way what card do you use?

I started in slot 2 days SC SD, SC Mini SD rumble and SC Lite..

I have and use a 2gb Firelink (ncard clone) and a DS1 with 2gb Kingston (J) I had an R4 when 1.08 was the latest firmware but other than the skinning, I couldn't see any advantages in functionality as I've always used fast memory anyway. I'm pretty sure most things the DS1 can do will be adopted by other carts but there seems to be more flexibility/configurable options on the DS1. I'm not saying the R4 is a bad cart, just don't see what makes it the best!

If I need a fast MicroSD card, what is recommended? Any brands?

I must be lucky then as POR works fine on my sandisk  :)

Stupid R4 website. I click the "where to buy" option, and just a bunch of continents pop up! I'm in the UK btw if anyone wants to link me to a website.

Most of the sites are out of stock, http://www.gameyeeeah.com/m3-ds-simply-microsdtf-slot1-solution-adapter-p-198.html still has some in stock.

To add to the discussion, I think it is worth a shot getting a CycloDS Evolution.  I have used many flash carts in the past (Supercard MiniSD, M3 Lite, G6 Lite, DSLink, N-Card, DS Linker, Supercard DS ONE, EZ Flash 3, EZ Flash 4 Lite, Supercard DS ONE, M3 Simply, R4DS, CycloDS, G6DS Real, etc), and CycloDS Evolution seems to have a nice team behind it, and it does do whatever the R4 does.  I am not saying the R4 isn't good, in fact is is awesome, however the CycloDS Evolution offers all of their features, plus some news ones.  I think it is worth spending the extra $10 to upgrade to a CycloDS Evolution.

Of course this is just my opinion.
