I know this topic probably has been around a lot and I just want an answer now after the wii has been out a while.
I finally have enough money for one of these and a couple games, no ps3 for me since I just can't afford it and my parents would be like OMGWTFBBQ H4X games for 600$ no way.
I'm wondering since I can't have friends over ALL the time which system has better single player type games that I don't need people over to play.
I don't need the amazing graphics since I'm on a crappy old tv  :'( I would just like opinions.

DeVS

Well if your by yourself the XboX 360 is probably the best way to go. The Wii in my opinion is the best system out there, but tends to lean towards a "party" play system where it is most fun with 2 or more players. Not to say there are not some good single player Wii games, it's just most of the Wii games out are "party" games and the 360 has alot of single player games that are fun.

Right now I am going to say 360. I have an old 25 inch conventional TV and the difference between the Wii and the 360 is still incomparable. The 360's graphics are much much better. That said, who cares? It really comes down to the games. There, too, though, I think the 360 is winning right now. It's been out an extra year and there is getting to be quite a collection of very good 360 games while I am beginning to get frustrated by the lack of good Wii games.

So I say 360. Will that change in a year or two? Maybe.

wii.

main reasons: Geometry wars galaxies, mario galaxy, smash bros, ghiii (yeah 360 too but its gotta wiimote), metroid
too many party games atm, cant wait till the real games

reason i dont want 360: too many fps games, its just fps after fps after fps :P:P:P (and the whole breaking bit)

360 is good for graphics etc.. but its the games that count

if you dont pc game at all, the 360 might be slightly more for you, but if you play on a pc alot, 360 isnt much new

sonicwind

geometry wars is coming to wii? O_o, I play some pc games but not that many since the money needed to keep up with new games is a little...insane.  I still have a while to consider though.

thanks for the replies.

Really, I think it's too early to tell.  By this christmas there's supposed to be something like 2x the number of Wii games available.  No, I think it was more than that, if I remember the E3 briefing properly...

It was very impressive, whatever it was!  And it did NOT include virtual console titles, although it may have included downloadable original content, I don't know.

At this very moment, the good Wii games list is:

Mario Strikers: Charged (*****)
Zelda (*****)
Super Paper Mario (***** although don't expect Paper Mario 2.0, it's a much different game)
Trauma Center (**** or *** if you have the DS version already)
NFS Carbon (***, I actually like the controls a lot, but that's not a really popular view)
Elebits (****)
Sonic (**)
SSX (**)
Tony Hawk (***)
Excite Truck (**** but short-lived)
Rayman (***)
Wii Sports... naturally... (****)

These ones are very good according to reviews but I have not played them:
Resident Evil 4
Madden 07
Godfather
Mercury Meltdown

Add to that the fact that you can get GC games if you didn't have a GC previously, and those games are ultra-cheap now, and there's at least a few months' worth of playing there if you're not on it all day long.  By the time you're bored with them, a larger lineup will be available.  Those ratings are RELATIVE, meaning there's a ton of average-to-mediocre games as well, but the above ones are the best and the stars indicate my preference.

Also, if you miss out on Metroid Prime 3, all your friends will make fun of you, and you'll probably get lynched.

But realistically... Xbox 360 has a ton more games and developers aren't used to the idea of "beter grafix =! bettr game??! WTF??!!!", so Wii wiil probably not have a very strong lineup until this time next year.

There's one more good reason to wait though: Xbox 360s appear to be going through a manufacturing change, with the new consoles hopefully not being so prone to glitching to death.  But how long will it take for these improved consoles to actually reach retailers?

Really, I'd wait for christmas.  You'll get better prices too...

Hi

The ONLY advantage to the xbox 360 is the graphics. If you're going to get an xbox 360 but don't care about graphics why not get (or keep) a ps2? It's still got TONS and TONS of games being made for it, not to mention all the games already out. Plus, ps2 games are much cheaper. I'm only saying ps2 over GC or XBOX (normal) because PS2 has the most games, which I don't like, since I hate sony.

But the wii has no shortage of fun single player games, and the motion controls are absolutely fantastic. To name a few wii games with good single-player...

1. Wii sports (the single-player is really just as good as the multiplayer)
2. Red Steal (I've never played it myself as it's rated T, but I've heard it's fantastic)
3. Zelda Twilight Princess
4. SPM (Although, in my opionion, this is not a true Mario game but rather a mario spoof)
5. WarioWare Touched (Party-game, but it's got great single-player)
6. Super Mario Galaxy (Yeah Yeah, I know it's not out yet, but there is almost no possible way for this to not be an amazing game)
7. Super Smash Brothers Brawl (It's not out yet, see above. SSB is great for multiplayer, but it's singleplayer is still great. Plus it will probably have Wifi)

Even if it wasn't for your TV, I'd never go with graphics when picking a system. Are you playing the game or watching the game?

So, go with a wii or a 6th generation console, I see NO reason for you to get the xbox 360.

is there any reason to get wii play?  and the xbox360 consideration was because a lot of my friends have it and I am really close to microsoft so i get those cheap games, but my notion was they were all fps(good ones) so I dunno.  I guess I will wait until christmas for the black wii  ;D

I am going to get in trouble for saying this but my Wii has collected some dust as of late... I never finished Zelda, Wii Sports is still cool, Excite truck was fun... Monkey ball was ok, Mario Party 8 is meh, Super Paper Mario rules....

I honestly might say go for the 360.  I personally want a current gen nhl game and I don't have a 360 or ps3 so I'm screwed.  Wii is cool, there's just still not much out for it.

I think Batallion Wars 2 seems promising and the other standard upcoming games like Metroid, Smash Bros, Mario...

I've yet to get Strikers, which looks really fun.

sonicwind

Also are friend codes that much of a hassle?  I'd rather not pay for online service if i don't have too I'm just wondering how annoying the system is or is it good?

DeVS

I can see with not wanting to pay for the online play, but if you ever had the chance to use XboX Live compared to PS3 or Wii online, $50 a year is not a bad price at all. XboX Live simply KILLS all other systems when it comes to online.

if you get a ps2, you have nhl 08.  granted, the graphics will suck compared to the ps3's, but hey, you will get to see the pens have a perfect dynasty mode just to get bumped out by the nucks in the cup finals :D  j/k of course... sorta

socket

Yeah, I know i can get it for ps2 or pc, but it's a totally different game.  They basically release 2 versions.  One for the 360 and PS3, and another for PS2 and PC.  And also, it'd be pens in 4 if they were in the finals with the nucks.

DeVS

So bottom line, if you can afford it the Wii60 is the combo to have.

@ socket: yeah, i wanna get a 360, but its so expensive for being almost 2 years old...
nah, nucks in 7 games, 4th overtime 1-0 nucks.  Alex edler = game winner

@ DeVS: LOL
