Is there anything left to the claim that R4/M3Simply is better than SCDS1?

A few months back I was lamenting my choice of the SCDS1, mostly because my crapola Sandisk microSD couldn't hack the speeds needed to run games smoothly. I finally broke down and bought a couple Toshiba 1GB microSD's (the SD-C01G or whatever it is) and about the same time the SCDS1 released SP4, and now today along comes SP5. I am now pretty damned satisfied with how the SCDS1 runs. Is there anything left about the R4 and/or M3Simply that could be considered better than the SCDS1???

it was the box contents that won me over, not completely sure if that's changed now :)

i used to like SCDS1but now i going to stick with R4.
Maybe it is the most popular now and if there is a homebrew, it will be for R4 first.

DLDI pretty much makes that a moot point now, doesn't it?

I found different when search for a program that made EZ3in1 work on R4/SCDS1.
SCDS1 seem to have more problem.  :(

that wasn't exactly the kind of 'homebrew' app I had in mind when I mentioned DLDI. But I see your point. I use SCLite in Slot2, so I'd never run into that problem.

I have both, I really like the R4, simpler to use than the DSONE, quicker to load, and I much prefer the cheat system.

Much eisier to make add cheats with the software thats available.

Only thing that has put me slightly off the R4 is that WORMS 2, would not work without a patch.  Worked 100% on the DSONE.

Apart from that, I would say they are as good as each other for thier own reasons.

I quite like the SCDS1 ;) it has great potential! yeah I think R4 startup is quicker than scds1 but maybe scds1 has better future games compatibility like when zelda(jap) came out, r4 needed a firmware update to make it work, but with scds1 it worked straight away i think..

now i very confuse.

When i going to buy SCDS1, everyone said R4 is better in game.

then...

Yeah, you can't really go on what others say. You never know if that person is just an ignorant fanboy, or really knows what he's talking about.

I got them both, and both work great. I don't really see one being "better" than the other. R4 is just easier to use.

1. Take a look at the SC Forum and read too much Threads about SCDS1 save-problems (even with SP5)  :idiot2:
That is reason enough NOT to buy it (maybe if all bugs are fixed), I don't like to play a game always from the beginning!
2. Read about the many memory card speed problems with SCDS1 (even with Kingston Japan microSD)  :'(
3. Pokemo~1.sav -> it's the very, very, very old 8.3 DOS naming -> awful for such a modern System!  2funny

:smitten: I'm very satisfied with the R4DS  :smitten:

cards are now just personal preference all of the slot-1 cards are almost identical and you can buy whichever one and be satisfied.

I also have read about R4 SD speed either- that's why people use kingston(J)

Scds1 worked perfectly with new roms if you disabled the patch, most of the people having trouble to save games are using slot 2 cards

Also there were a bug in the earliest versions of Sp5, but it was fixed in a day

No-one seems to have mentioned the 'real time' features of the scds-1, imo this sets it above the more basic R4.

Plus with the new direct save to memory card system makes it stand out again, this save system has always been the best and most reliable, a lost save file on an sc-slot2 is a pretty rare event (though pokemonD+P did have probs with the save file being set to small at first).

Also the SCDS-1 is firmware upgradeable, so is sure to get even better in the future, perhaps even sdhc support ?? (just look how SC-Slot2's are supported today).. the R4 is almost a 'set-in-stone' product.

edit.. please don't miss understand me, I think the R4 is a great product and maybe the more suitable for noobs, it's just I think the Scds-1 is better for features and the long run.
Yes I'm mad
