I just go this phone: http://alltel.com/phones/lg/ax8600s.html . It has the ability to play videos on it. So i converted and episoded of The Office. And during high action (when people move alot on the screen) the video gets real choppy. So i was wondering if someone knew a really good 3GP converter. IM current using ther Freez 3GP converter. I also need the ideal settings like resolution, framerate.

Thank you!

that would be a pointless exercise as PC programs often compensate for bad video by filtering in the playback software added to that the pc has a FAR BETTER processor so would be less laggy anyway :)

the secret to good video conversion is using a good quality input/source and keeping a fairly high bitrate on output and audio :)

does the phone play MP4 video then this would be a better option as MP4 is a much better and higher quality video format for mobile (dpg output is very similar to MP4) :)

What software are you using?

and note that long videos such as episodes/movies will never be 100% perfect converted to mobile as you are basically compressing the heck out of it to get a small file size/dimensions to fit the mobile screen :(

best convertors from experience is either SUPER VIDEO CONVERTOR or XILISOFT :)

a little tip for higher video bitrate and less choppyness is to use higher video bitrate but lower 1 channel mono sound ... Its a mobile you dont need 100% 2 channel stereo sound its not a 5.1 dolby dvd or for use on a pc ;)

I use this free online thing, you don't install anything so it's worth a try, it just works from your browser... Media-Convert

similar service http://www.zamzar.com/

onekelly

there is also http://yaomingsoft.com/  and his product is A-one Video Converter. it converts to many formats. I was told that he was the one that made this software and many others copied his layout and or program. My friend uses it religiously for avi to ipod conversion and loves it! It does 3gp format as well.

I use Super Converter, you can download it from here:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
For the settings, choose in Output Container 3gp (Sony Ericsson), then in Video Scale Size select 220:176. You can also change the Video Bit Rate if you want.
Then drop the file you want to convert in the program, and clic Encode (Active Files). The converted file will be on the root of your C: disk.
The codecs used are MPEG-4 for the video and AAC for the audio. If your phone doesn't read those codecs, try using 3gp (Nokia/NEC/Siemens)
And BTW, with the same program you can convert to DPG for Moonshell

I use SUPER encoder for creating MOBILE videos or converting from web video to 3gp/mp4

correct settings for SE mobiles are 176x144 or 320x240 :)

as moderator on a mobile forum Ive written some basic guidelines for using SUPER ENCODER as follows ..

****************************************************

Quote
ideal settings for good quality video (works best with short clips  )

***************************************

VIDEO CONTAINER/CODEC = MP4

AUDIO CONTAINER/CODEC = MP4

dimensions 176x144

bitrate of 450 - 650

aspect 1:1

frame rate 15

audio 1 channel 64 bit 22050 sampling freq

****************************************

additional for WMV files to MP4 use the following information ....

NOTE there was some issues with WMV to MP4 this is a work around

First convert to AVI using the following instructions below ...

Change the settings for output container to AVI

Change the FFmpeg or Mencoder setting to checkmark next to MENCODER

check the VIDEO SCALE is set to NO CHANGE

FPS is set to 25

BITRATE SET TO 850

ASPECT 1:1

HQ checked (ticked)

Audio set to 22050 sampling and 2 channels with bitrate of 128

drag your WMV into the conversion window then click ENCODE now

When prompted what to RENDER optimiser to use choose XVID and it will then encode the WMV to XVID (AVI)

once you have done the above and got your avi then return to the top of this guide and now ENCODE your newly encoded AVI file to MP4 using the MP4 guide above

I told him to use 220:176 because that's his phone's screen resolution, so he can watch the video in full-screen mode (if the phone has that function).

Try looking in the root of your hard disk, or in C:\Program Files\eRightSoft\SUPER\Output

screen resolution is 176x220 according to my sources

so 176x144 would of fitted and most screens will stretch to fit or has a function to :)

it also uses MP4 video playback so would go for this as its a much higher quality video format over 3gp :)

and super will usually if the default file location is changed will/should also be in the same folder the input file is so maby check there too ;)

well at least it does with mine :)

I know that, but some phones allows you to rotate the video, to play it in full screen, that's why i said to use that resolution. Also, 3gp is only the container of the file, it's completely different from the codec, by choosing 3gp for sony ericsson the video codec is MP4, and the audio codec is AAC (also known as m4a or mp4).
The settings I use for my phone (a Sony Ericsson W300i) are the same, except for the size, i put it in 176x144 so i can send it to other phones with higher screen resolution. Anyway, if your phone doesn't rotate the video to play in full screen, you can use 176x144 to save some space.

goto search find files  and use this to search      *.mp4

search find files and use this to search      *.3gp

this will scan your hard drive and find only either mp4 files or 3gp files :)
