Both. The Update disc writes the firmware and is only needed once. The config disc is what you use to change settings. Why they can't just make them one disc and save us the DVD-R I don't know but that's how it works.

Got a friend with a newly modded wii w/wiikey, can you go straight to 1.9s or should you go step by step? I wasn't sure what was correct, and didn't want to give him bad info.

DeVS

You can go straight to 1.9s without going to previous versions first.

I have a US Wii and I installed 1.9s update.

Original Retail SSBB works fine.
All my backups work fine.
Eternal Darkness and Ikaruga (GC) works and plays fine (proving audiofix is still there)

Heck, I even notice my Wii being a little quieter when reading.

Hooray for the Wiikey Team :)

Hi Shinster, I had my Wiikey installed way back but had never update any wiikey firmware.
I'm very new to this (always been playing with the orignals)
My questions are: I have USA Wii 3.2U - wiikey firmware???
I noticed there are 1.4 config (non pad/pad) both are difference in files size
1)Which config should I use (I guess file size config.14.us.iso 1459978240) - what is the purpose
2)What are the procedures to upgrade the Wiikey firmware 1.9s (do not have a GC controller)
3)Should I update the config first then firmware
4)How can I restore back to original setting if update fails - do I need to reinstall a new wiikey
Thank you for your advise

anton

The config disc is used to configure the current firmware.  Padded or non padded is a difference on disc iso creation, the padded one works better on Wii reading though the non padded one does work (on mine).

When you update the wiikey firmware, you update the firmware and then use the appropriate config disc afterwards to disable the region lock stuff and other configurations you want.

If you hose it, you need the recovery disc.  I haven't used that before though I've burnt myself a couple of copies.

I think for the folks without a GC controller, you need the disc image that is made specifically for those without a GC controller.

Hope it helps.
