Its down to the screen size of the DS and GBA. You're never going to get one without some degree of scaling. This is why some people prefer other platforms for emulation eg the gp32/gp2x which has a native 320x240 screen ( perfect for most emulators )

ratx: Not really. The NES/SNES display in 256 by 224 (SNES has some other modes as well, but it's primarily the same)

The GP32 and it's ilk's got a higher res so it all can fit, but the image either has to be bordered on every end, or else it looks very blury. No image looks good going from 256x224 to 320x240.

The problem with the GBA is that the res is actually smaller then the nes/snes at 240x160 (I believe, I'd have to double check)

The DS has it a little better with a screen of 256x192. Still a little small, but quite a bit closer.

My GP2X arrives next week but afaik it will look quite good on it. Much better than scaling down a NES/SNES game. And after all I may run the games in their native res centered(with black boarders) crystal clear  like they are supposed to be :) -since it uses a 3,5" display there will be practically a 3" display left, which is still fine :)

Yeah that'd probably work great like that.

cheerup: I'm guessing the GP2x is the sequel to the GP32

Forgive the drooling... are they finally shipping?

You are correct Koji, it is the sequel to GP32, now based on a linux platform:

At least I thought so until now... They delayed another shipment, new shipment to retailers is now Monday. That means the systems will arrive at the retailers sometime next week, and I will get mine in 2 weeks then :/

However UK buyers are said to get an earlier shipment date but I don't know much about that... -Bad news continue: no emulator seems to be ready when the system ships, I'm a bit disappointed about that.

However there is a fine working snes emu ready, that should be available soon as well as a neo geo and pc engine emulator along with Frodo(C64) and some M.A.M.E. boards emulated.  Quake1 runs allready and a Quake 2 Port is rumored. A GBA Emulator is said to be in the works too :)

Hey let us know how well the snes emu works with the GP2X.
I'm getting tired of the PSP (sure it's near full-speed but the frameskip can be horrendous for certain games like the Square stuff) and the rigamarole you have to go thru just to run "homebrew", i don't care much for .isos since I own quite a few PSP games which I still have to go thru.
GTA and Virtua Tennis alone is not enough for me.

I am curious about the GP2X as well.  My quest is to play Galaga 88 at full speed (either PCE emu or MAME).

The GP2X apparently will play all games for 8 and 16 bit systems at full speed and a lot of the pre 1993 MAME as well.

We will see.....

Please let us know how well it does!

Will do... I've had mine on pre order for quite a while now... should get it this week
