microSD speeds

I just received my supposedly 60+ speed kingmax 512MB microSD, and just wanted to report on my findings.

Formatted to standard FAT format, the noticeable increse in streaming speed was minimal (as compared to a standard sandisk 512MB microSD) but noticeable.  Games like animal crossing and tony hawk were noticeably  smoother (they were already more than acceptable, using the latest patching software).

Formatting with 64k unit allocation size seems to add a noticeable increase in performance on tony hawk.

Basically, with this new card, I would say that except for the GBA support and nice looking menu, my G6 Lite has no real advantage over the Supercard Lite.

So your saying, Supercard Lite w/ Old Patching Software = SUCKS BADLY
Supercard Lite w/ New Patching Software w/ Same Memory Stick = Good (still worse then G6 Lite?)

and Supercard Lite w/ New Patching Sotware w/ New Memory = Great (same as G6 Lite) it doesnt seem that way to me. Where did you buy your microSD. Supercard Lite seems just as fast when playing DS games as G6 Lite to me.

sneef

It doesn't seem that way to you?  I'm simply writing my assessment of a higher speed card.  If you don't agree, that's fine with me.

The fact is that using a standard sandisk microSD (and the current patcher), there is slightly slower performance compared to G6 Lite.  If it's not noticeable to you, then that's good.  I only wrote this to add to the very small amount of public data regarding the supercard lite.

[edit] frankly, I'm getting tired of trying to add to the knowledge base of this community.  There is a small but growing group of individuals who seem to thrive on posting inflammatory remarks [/edit]

Iteresting.

Is it possible to test the difference in access times between the 2 ? I believe you can use HDtach to do this.
Yes I'm mad

I will be testing a 1GB regular SanDisk vs 1GB SanDisk Ultra II microSD on the SuperCard Lite this coming week and will also post my results. I will also be testing access times and card speeds.

This has been the conclusion that has been going around the forum for a while that while the SC Lite runs great with the standard microSD cards, it runs perfect with the higher speed microSD cards. I mean RomMan had even made that point when he released the first information about the SuperCard Lite.

Either way the SC Lite is huge improvement over previous SC's in terms of flash memory bandwidth management.

its true, when i use my standar sandisk i notice a slower loading in games and even some games will crash like tag of juju or super mario bros on the mini games. but when using my ultra II sandick evrything slows quicker and you see really noticable speed in tony hawk and AC, also metroid pinball.

P.S is it normal for metroid prime to lag when you are playing multiplayer with 2 other people and a bot and all 4 are shooting at the same time int the same spot?

I have the Ultra II Sandisk microSD 1GB and the new Sandisk 2GB microSD (exclusive to Verizon Wireless here in the US for the next couple of months).  With the latest patching software, Animal Crossing (at least) appears about the same.  So, go get that 2GB!

What was the price of the 2gb microsd card that you got at Verizon?

Sneef,

I appreciate all your input. (this is off topic i know but here me out) This is not pointed at any individual but there are plenty of a$$holes out there, but one thing you have to remember that it is just a very very small amount. Most people really appreciate all the work and effert you put into this site as well as many others. The posts on this site as well as another site have saved me countless hours googling and coming up empty handed. With this site my daughters DS has become so much more than it ever was.

I think you have been getting the red ass from quite a few people lately, and unfortunately if it continues I will be sad to see this site go away! So for all the n00bs out there (and yes everyone was one once at some time in there life), cut out the crap and lets all be a little more courteous of others

Johnny using slower media on MPH can sometimes cause free look to lag a bit. When you try and quickly turn around you might notice it chug a bit and I did some tests between my real game and the game running on my SC miniSD and have come to the conclusion that it does have slowdown a bit as per the memory. The regular gamecart is able to free look without any problems even with everyone shooting and jumping.

This week I'm gonna take the Ultra II and regular microSD through as many tests as I can so that I can find out how much having the Ultra II card helps.

Wow, they have them in stock already? I wonder when the Ultra II versions will be coming out?

Does the Ultra II really read/write at 10mb/s?

I just got a sandisk regular microSD but I was able to transfer 359MB of files to my microSD in under 2 mins. Is this slow? How long does the Ultra II take?

And 113MB took me lil under 30seconds.

Can anybody with a ultra II do a similar test for me please? Thanks

EDIT UPDATE: After a few hours of testing, so far no slow downs in Tony Hawk's, Castlevania intro, and Animal Crossing, but some very minor frame rate issue in Nanostray when big explosion and lots going on.

Sounds like I'll get the same performance from my SCL as I got from my SCCF, which I'm happy with.  The only game I ever had slowdown with was some very slight (10% ?) decrease in framerate during multiple large explosions in Nanostray.  I never tried running Castlevania's intro through.

It's strange that SCCF seems to perform better than the newer SD and MiniSD models.  I was using 1x and 4x speed CF cards, nothing fancy.

I might order an A-Data 60x microSD and try it out as well, now I have got a Kingston 512mb which drops lots of frames during the Castlevania intro. Still haven't received my Ultra II so I might just as well stick with my Kingston till I get my hands on that A-Data.
