i just asked dslink about releasing their fatlib and they replied saying it would take some time    I don't think thats a good move.

ImmortalNinja

So its good to know that it should be quite easy to go from DS-LInk saves to Supercard too :)

Does it work for the M3 too? I got a SC, M3 so I would like to know if someone can test it.  :)

Taking time is a bad move? Not releasing it qualifies as a bad move. They just need... well, time. Give them some slack.
he Internet is a series of tubes. :D

sonicwind

its a bad move because other companies have already released it.  and since the ds-link has poor homebrew quality thus far its going to hurt it combined with the fact you must flash or get mk4

i got a question, i know that the main site is www.ds-link.net but is there support sites? like how scedev a support site for supercard.
JPN NDSL

-1GB Kingston MiniSD
ohhhhh boy... can't wait for a DSL SC.

This site provides support for more than just Supercard. Some of our members have other flashcards too.

So far the DSLink patcher works fine with newer ROMs.

Alright... I ordered one of these guys from our buddies at Real Hot Stuff ... bitblt, I know you offered to let me use yours for a review, but I figured I'd just pick it up.

Now, I've poked through this long ass thread and had a couple of questions that may or may not have been answered already, so please forgive me if I stumble on old stuff.

1) Is there a definitive site (not ds-link.net) that has non-Engrish, up to date information about the patching utility, kernal updates, etc.?  Maybe a compatibility chart?
2) Someone (bitblt?) mentioned that it plays Ultimate Spiderman perfectly.  Now, according the Engrish site, there is a special saver needed to get past this, but this patch was never mentioned in any review I've seen.  Now I could care less about playing the game, but I'm curious which is true as it may affect games in the future.
3) Is backing up save files as simple as saving the files off like the Supercard?  How about Rein or similar tool?  Has anyone tried these to see if they work?  If not, how have you managed to get your saves off real carts to the DS-Link?
4) My order is on the way, but I'm already patching my favorite games.  Since I have an "extra" 1GB transflash card laying around, what I'm doing is patching roms and generating save files, copying them all back to the hard drive, wiping the card, and doing it again over and over for each game in turn.  Is there any sort of "index" file created for the menu each time you copy files to the card that I'll have to monkey with when copying pre-patched files back and forth via the standard file system vice using the tool? (does that even make sense?)
5) I'm using a standard Sandisk 2GB card.  Anyone have speed issues with this card?
6) Is menu/game launch time "comparable" to the launch times on the Supercard?  I've seen the video, but it was out of focus most of the time. :)
7) Just for clarification - and I know it's been addressed somewhere ... you still cannot play flashed DS to non-flashed DS with DS Download, correct?
8) Has anyone gotten the real skinny on what the patch process does?  Obviously it does a saver patch (which never seems to be a problem with any mod device), but does it do anything else?  Someone mentioned it might trim/compress ... any official thoughts on this?
9) Are the mini-games in NSMB still broken?  Does DS-Link Team know about this and has anyone received a response on this?
10) Anyone try Clubhouse Games on it?  Can you see if the 'white screens of death' are gone when you go to edit your WFC information (the firmware stuff) and then return to the game?  I believe Starfox suffers that too.

Whew!  Thanks in advance guys!  If this works out well, and there is no real English definitive site out there, I'll start something.  Definitely look for my review at DSR.com soon.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to send my DSLink to you for review.  I fully intended to send it eventually.  I was only taking my time because you didn't seem very excited about it. (You seemed more excited about the Nintendo DS Browser.)

Just like the Supercard site, only Engrish support is available for DSLink, AFAIK.

Nope, I don't think >I< said Ultimate Spiderman works perfectly. DSLink has issues running Ultimate Spiderman just like other flashcards.  Maybe Ultimate Spiderman uses self modifying code or something, I don't know? The solution for DSLink is to download a special save file that puts the game past the introduction level. Ultimate Spiderman seems to work perfectly once you get past the introduction level. I have not had problems with other games using DSLink, including newer games like March of the Minis and Danny Phantom that came out after the latest patcher software release. I have not tested all ROMs.

Yes, you can cut and paste files to and from the TF card all you want. There is even a Supercard save import option. As far as Rein, it uses FAT lib so it doesn't currently work.  I think Homebrew support will get better in the future. There is a DSLink version of Moonshell.

No. The DSLink will only complain if the last used save file is missing. It will stop complaining after a new game is loaded.  You can cut and paste files all you want.  The only trick is the save files get put in a SAV subdirectory.  You can have <root>\SAV and <root>\US\SAV and <root>\JAP\SAV etc., if you know what I mean.

My Verizon 2GB Sandisk seems to work perfectly.

The DSLink menu is not as fast as Supercard. It takes a couple of seconds to load icons when changing subdirectories. Once icons are loaded the menu is quite responsive.  Game load time is about the same as Supercard when loading the last played game. There will be a few seconds of delay loading save files into EEPROM when randomly accessing different games.

Correct.

The DSLink patcher does trim ROMs. Unlike the Supercard patcher, the DSLink patcher doesn't allow you to select various patching options. The patcher software just does it's thing.

I forgot to check that.  I'll give it a try this evening.

Clubhouse Games works fine. Unlike Supercard, there are no "white screens of death" when you edit your WFC information.

I look forward to your DSLink review. Let me know if you need some help with the English definitive DSLink support site.

marzxbarz

I can confirm that the NSMB mini games do NOT work. I'm not sure if the DSLink team knows about this.

A thing I enjoy about the DSLink is how you can scroll up/down the list by holding the D-Pad up/down rather than repeatedly pressing up/down on the Supercard. I also enjoy the UI of the DSLink. I pretty much rely on icons to find my games now :). The microSD card is a great fit and doesn't feel like it'll fall out at all. Hope you enjoy your DSLink as much as I do.

OK. I have poured through this thread and want to get a bottom line.

Do you think the DS-Link is worth getting over the Supercard System? Is it that much better? Do more things?

Since everyone is now making a Slot 1 device... don't you think that Romman with release one too in the near future?
