Did I need to uninstall the previous version?

ratx

Not as part of the recovery. A paper clip works fine I find.

I used a flat head screwdriver.  One of those really tiny ones you can get in a set at any 99 cent store.

No, the previous one was "erased" when you turned the power off.  You just need to get a better tool for the job.

I was assuming that, but panic makes you ask stupid things :)

Anyway, I'd like to say a big Thanks to all the people who gave me advice.

It seems that even stupidity cannot kill by little DS :D

Step away from the crazy person, there is nothing to see here......

All fixed, Woooooo Hooooooo

If I told you that I've worked in the IT industry for over 10 years you would scoff based on todays events!!!!  I dont know what possessed me to turn off the DS when I did.  I honestly though it had locked up (I was messing around for 40 minutes) and I thought the possible corruption was from the possibility of a dodgy write.  Kinda like ripping the power out of your PC when your running defrag, but alas I was wrong.

You learn something every day, so I scamper off to bed having fixed my DS and feeling like a Tool.

You may feel like a tool, but think of yourself as a tool whose DS, after all this drama, still works.

And it wouldn't surprise me that you've worked in IT for 10 years, I've known lots of IT folk who are useless around hardware  8)

Hehe, but seriously, this falls more into the realms of electronics, and only a mispent youth of soldering irons and circuitry would acclimatise people to this sort of endeavour really.
I"ll stick with hardware assembly myself, at least when I'm not  teaching anymore...

edit: oh, and one more thing; congrats on an fixed DS.

lord_kthulu

But thats the thing, I studied Electronic Engineering at Uni!!!
I had that mispent youth playing with soldering irons.
It was just panic induced stupidity.

But now I just work mainly as a Developer/Developer Instructor, so that might explain some things.  What sort of stuff do you teach?

Rolled up aluminum works pretty well to short SL1 also.
