Ok everyone is so excited and saying WOW $249 thats awesome!

Couldn't have nintendo really done better?

Fact is, look at what you are getting.  Revamped cube hardware with new software, and a controller adon.  Im going to assume these controllers dont cost all that much more (since their about the same price) as regular controllers.  And a game that spent very little time in development.

No DVD playback for sure.  Your getting something that is almost a Media Center, but you removed DVD playback.  So we can play home movies that fit on a little SD card....my dream come true.

The opera browser isnt included.  Come on nintendo, how cheap is that.  you had to squeeze that extra 10-20$ out of consumers.  Your forgetting that the majority of people up in age hate entering credit card info online.

No new specs were revealed, so im guessing it really is that 729Mhz...

I know were paying for engineering, but they kept this launch date and price a secret so long, I was ready for amazing.  What I got was the same stuff that was announced months ago, with further dissapointments.

Releasing days after PS3, not included features, and Mario Galaxy and MP3 are not launching for sure.

Im buying a Wii, im too much of a zelda fan not to play it how it was meant to be played by the developer,  I just think really making it attractive to the average person would be 199, or at MOST 229.  The dev cost for your games are 1/3 but the price is 10 bucks less.  Nintendo just dissapointed me....they told us under 250 months ago.  People will tell me WHATS 50 bucks?  Well its 50 away from Xbox 360.  Wii with extra controller and nunchuck your there. Well thats teh core xbox huh?  Well Wii doesnt exactly include a hard drive either.  Im saying I think nintendo really screwed up.  Does anyone else agree?

Damn, I've been to a few message boards today and all I see is people crying about the Wii's price. Be realistic, $250 is damn good considering you are getting a game. And $50 away from XB360? I don't think so. That CRIPPLED XB360 is missing several key pieces, namely the harddrive, which is basically a requirement the the user is eventually going to have to purchase. That's another $100 for them right there. THEN it doesn't come with a game which is ANOTHER $60. And don't even begin to bring up the PS3 and it's stratospheric prices.

No DVD is no big deal because everyone and their grannies has a DVD player so. So thats nothing to worry about at all. Same thing goes for MP3. The only thing that pissed me off was no Mario Galaxy. I guess Metroid and Madden will be my initial purchases. Maybe Zelda, but I'm not really much of a Zelda fan. And to address the CREDIT CARD issue. I too hate entering my CC info. But I was glad to see that they will be offering prepaid Wii Point cards so thats not so much an issue to me anymore.

As far as I'm concerned, the Wii is a good deal. And don't even act like you thought it was gonna be way under $250. EVERYONE knows that when a company says UNDER 250, Under 600......they really mean $249.99, $599.99.....which technically makes them correct. LOL.

I like the no DVD player thing. I don't like stressing out my game system's lasers with DVDs, I'll let my 20$ DVD players do that.
The only thing I don't like is the price for the NES games. I have a bunch here already... (yes the actual carts... like 50 of em) but this is also the release price... it will eventually go down... plus if its a fun system who cares. Pay for fun not for some hardware specs.
Speaking of Specs... the DS is a heaping pile of crap compared to the PSP... but the DS actually has games that are fun and that you want to play.

Seeing the game play and the recent changes in graphics, I would have paid $350 for the Wii. Specs mean little. Look at Resdient evil 4 for the GameCube compared to the PS2, the GameCube killed it. I also think they are SMART for using the GC as there core and building up from there. It's a fact that the longer a system is out the better looking the games become because developers learn how to code better for that system as time goes on so they really tweak a game to look stunning a year after the console has launched. The Wii's core is the same as the GC which means developers have about a 4yr head start on the tweaking. Look at these new screens of Splinter Cell for the Wii and tell me they dont look stunning and as good as anything out on the XboX360 right now: http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/splintercell4/screenindex.html

Thats good news at least.

And everyone has a DVD player yes, but you have a media center on, i guarantee someone is going to put a DVD in there and say....o crap this thing doesnt play DVDs.  In a college apartment it makes a difference.

They cant say its because they wanna keep it a gaming system, look what it does now.  Cool visuals and a quality product with lower power wont win the race.  Look at Apple...compare it to windows users, despite quality.

Im still getting a Wii....im going to drive the master sword into the heart of Ganon using my own hands lol.

Well if youd like a failing system with a Dead movie format go for the psp.

I'm satisfied with the price...i think that 250 bucks will be not so difficult to find /collect for childs and wont be a pain for ex-child as me. :D

and i'm glad that Nintendo continued to include into Wii weird things like Mii, yes i will buy the Wii only to build bunch of friends /familiar clones....
and to hiss at them to line them as in a big secondary school gym !!!

the big issue will be to distinct games from other console's games...and to make a long lasting innovative use of the control system, as we have seen for the NDS only few games compared to the 500 and more released have a complete and smart use of the touchscreen and of the microphone , other are fine gba games double-screened...and w do use the control pad to play much of the time.. a clear example is Trauma center.and few others.. yes really few...

i hope Nintendo will put its effort to give us "new"-controlled games, otherwise as a consumers if i would need not only weird stuff as Mii but a super 3d looking or astonishing relaistic console i would perhaps move toward x-box or ps-3.. with dvd, and other stuff included...

(anyone knows a nds game similar to Mii ??)   i want it

Oh I love dead movie formats. Can i get some betamax while I am at it?
Having a browser on the Wii.... youtube on the actual TV...
but this means one thing...
i need to actually buy a tv now (mine died... oh about 5 months ago :p)

edit:
hrmm wonder how full featured that Wii opera will be... 9.1 has an irc client built into it as well... i doubt they will keep that but that would be fun/funny.

I love that the Wii is coming out in the Stated BEFORE Japan and Japan is getting it alittle cheaper but no Wii Sports included. It's funny how Microsoft is trying everything to get a chunk out of Japan and gives them all kinds of deals and price cuts and now Nintendo is fighting back by paying more attention to the US market before the Japan market, lol. This will be the first Nintendo console to hit the states before Japan I believe.

Not sure if your post was meant for me or just a shot at psp but the point of my post was to compare what you're getting for your money basically.

where you like it or not Sony are spiralling downhill slowly and basically Nintendo are finding form and i dont think their is a problem with the Wii i like the current price it is extremely affordable

Since I already have posted at LENGTH on this topic on my own forums, I'll cross post just a bit.  Here is the original thread (might help with some context) and my initial post on the subject...

Jesus, I'm out for an hour and everyone freaks out ...

Let's be realistic here for JUST a minute.

What I predicted is almost correct - sans the extra controller. I said $249 with Wii Sports pack in, an extra controller and some free credits on the VC.

I didn't expect the nunchuck to be included - I'm surprised so many people did. So that's a $20 value. In essence, to get a multiplayer experience here, it's going to cost you another $20 to get the second Wii-mote. They also threw in Opera (which I guarentee will be better than the DS version) which we can call, let's say, a $29 value. Imagine Opera with the Wii-mote. Jesus - sitting on the couch browsing youTube or other content.

So, in reality - you're paying $9 more than we all expected. WHAAAAAAAAhhhhh Nintendo F*CKED me.

As for the $50 more and get a core 360, I don't even need to bother to address that.

Now, let's talk about the REAL issues here.

How robust is this media player going to be? Can I hit my whitebox via an interface and stream my pictures and video from it? If I can, what a nice bargain. Not for me - I already have a TV enabled whitebox ... but for MANY people that keep their media on a fileserver WITHOUT TV access, this would be a nice touch (yes, I know the 360 does it .. kthx)

How robust will Opera be? There better be plugin support - at least Flash. If so, you now have tens of thousands of twitch games for free available to you. If Nintendo was smart (you listening, Big N?) you will make a nice, 10 foot accessible gaming portal off wii.nintendo.com, so that we can have a cool interface that takes us directly to Wii-tested Flash/online games quickly and easily. I want to play Big Money with the Wii-mote plz. Kthx.

You want to know my BIGGEST disappointment? First party game price at $50. $40 would have been perfect - $50 drops my impulse urge. Fortunately, this can easily be fixed at anytime (and without even a firmware patch  ) and I suspect we'll get a "budget" line or "greatest hits" or whatever either right away (think Touch Generation Games) or shortly. I imagine we'll have a couple of surprises with digitally delivered content too (not that I'm in favor of it, but I appear to be in the minority these days).

The Virtual Console could be the real saving grace of the unit. I think it is totally ghey that they are using the point system crap; consumer obfusication if you ask me. I'm sure everything will be locked down too, which won't impress me much. Time will tell.

I love how everyone's jumping ship over $9. 'It used to be a lock, but damn Nintendo is screwing me over $9, so now it's a bust."
