This doesn't seem to have been mentioned here, but I've been following it over at Wiinewz........

The hacker known as Bushing has tried to inform Nintendo about an exploit that would allow copied disks to be read/played without a modchip, but Nintendo don't seem willing to talk to him about it.

Bushing has now given up with them and, although he will not release anything which would allow the soft-mod to work (though others are apparently close), he will be releasing something which will allow homebrew to work via DVD rather than an SD card even on un-modded consoles.

A more detailed account is at Wiinewz which also has links to Bushing's blog site.

That's pretty big news. Thus far, I've purchased all my Wii games and still have an unmodded Wii.

On the flip side, it looks like Ninty's getting more serious about the piracy on the DS already.

There, edited to make more sense.

No offense, but the above does not state that Ninty is doing anything on piracy, only that a homebrew developer wont release a soft mod.

No offense taken, it's still early here and I'm not sure what I've even written.

QuoteWhile Nintendo did reply to bushing’s open letter, he has not succeeded in establishing a conversation with an engineer about the issue. Furthermore, we have learned that they received and read at least two of the original three e-mails that were sent prior to the open letter, and decided not to reply (in fact, one of their replies was to one of the original e-mails, but only after the open letter was posted). Therefore, we can only conclude that they are not very interested in the issue.
