Setup:
I'm using a Gameboy Advance SP model AGS-001 (NES edition)
Supercard which was purchased a month ago (It works fine)
My CF is a 512mb Sandisk purchased from Circuit City about a month ago.
My camera is an HP Photosmart C200.
My card reader is an ancient New Media FILM Reader USB from around 2001.
OS is Windows 2000 Pro.


Last night, I was playing River City Ransom EX.  Did a normal save, and a quicksave, and shut off my GBA for bed.

Next morning, I wake up and turn on my GBA, and I get the error "not find the CF Please turn off GBA".  Of course, I think that's odd and check everything inside the Supercard.  Looks fine to me.  I try restarting, ejecting the card and blowing into it (l know you do it too) and everything, but no luck.  So, I pop in my 32mb Kodak and it works without a problem.  Next, I pop in my 96mb Sandisk and it works perfectly, too.

I then plug my 512mb into my computer's CF reader and when I go to open it, My Computer crashes and my start menu disappears until I unplug my reader.  It comes back and recovers.  I then try popping my card into my camera, and it says there's no card inserted.

What happened to my CF card?

A stupid question, I'm sure:  did you turn your GBA off while it was saving to the CF?

It sounds like the CF card is corrupt (not gone, just corrupt).  I would imagine if you formatted it, it would be good as new.  Of course, that isn't exactly a solution to the problem, now is it?  Besides, you still wouldn't have solved anything, as the reason for the problem in the first place would remain unclear.

Did you back up the majority of everything that was on the CF (like savegames and the like)?  If so, and it wouldn't be a huge loss to you, I'd try formatting the CF and seeing what happens.

In any case, I'd definitely wait for some more responses, hopefully from people that have experienced the same issue and solved their problem (as I recall seeing this problem posted at the official forum a few times).

Threads like this are the reason for me only to use my 128+64 CF Cards with the SC and not my precious Kingston Elite Pro 1 GB.

There was some other guy here in this Forum,who had a similar problem.

Did you try what was described in the other thread about this issue?  Basically you can avoid My Computer crashing by not opening it and instead formatting using the command prompt:

So, just to clarify:  does it crash when you plug the CF card into your CF reader, or when you attempt to view the contents of the CF card?

BTW, there's more than one way to format a device (explorer, command prompt, Computer Management, software, et cetera).  If you're willing to lose the data that isn't backed-up, I'd try all available formatting avenues.

It crashed when I tried to open it in My Computer.  It could simply sit in the reader without trouble.

I discovered what happened.  A part of the business end got chipped off and my computer acted as if there were no card plugged in in the first place.  I took it back and they let me exchange it.
