You have probally read about this elsewhere but I thought I'd post it here too. The infamous Wii developer "Waninkoko" has been developing this for a while. There was a video of it on TehSkeen recently... well it seems one of the beta testers has leaked a copy to the wild. Its reported to work although there are a few issues. Obviously blah blah blah you could brick your Wii with this - only install it if you know what you're doing.

a er "HowTo"

You patch the ISO with the .exe that came in the download.
Install the CIOS on your Wii
Install DVDX. Go to Advance and choose 249
Install Wii Loader
Burn the patched ISO with ImgBurn
Run the loader

I've not tested this as I have a chip already but if you try it out please let us know

ZeldaDD

He discontinued it because of the leak.  That's what he says on his website.

waiting for others to test first!

My guess is that he's trying to dance a legal dance. I suspect he himself is the 'leak' but he won't officially release it for fear of Nintendo's ninjas.

I really don't think so. Waninkoko is the one who created the WAD installer, (among many other things of questionable legality) and in essence, a WAD installer does the same thing as an ISO loader- it's just a different medium.

Ratx, my understanding is that this will work on a chipped Wii in the same way it will work on an un-chipped Wii, so you may want to go ahead and try it.

*thinks about buying an external DVD burner so he can backup all his Wii games in case they get scratched*

I think you should remove your link.  Apparently someone leaked it out, and Waninkoko isn't exactly happy about it.

Yes it was leaked by a GBATemp member but the damage is done now; even if we delete the link many other sites won't.  I think xiaNiax at Wiinewz puts it rather well:

He doesn't care about it now that it's leaked. The damage is done.

If you want to show your support by deleting the files and/or not using them, that is fine. If GBATemp had done the same when some idiot posted a RapidShare link to the apps, this situation would not have happened. The blame lies soley with them and their users. They had plenty of opportunity to delete the link once it was posted. There were literally dozens of posts asking them to do just that. They knew about it right away and so did Waninkoko. Instead, they chose to post it as front page news to boost their own traffic. Once they did that, this site and others had to do the same.

Hi

Y'know what gets me though? None of this would have happened if developers would just release work-in-progress versions of their apps.

I mean, look at this loader. It may be very buggy, it may not work well, but does it get the job done? Okay, does it SOMETIMES get the job done? If it is useful even once, to one person, then why not just release a work-in-progress?

I'm not even saying the developers need to bother to compile the source, just put it on the web in some way, shape, or form. No doubt others will do the rest for you. (Someone will compile it and distribute it, at some point or another.).

If developers did that, then there wouldn't be any need to "leak" things.

And BTW if people want something bad enough, they'll ALWAYS find a way to leak it before it's supposed to be released. Look at the seventh Harry Potter book!

Work-in progress isn't always good, in fact I could see it posing a real problem in this situation.  First off, there's the off chance that the app isn't completely done, and could brick Wiis, could cause problems, and the endless amount of newbies asking WTF all the way through.  Then you have the people who have no patience asking for it all the time, asking for updates all the time.  And also you lose the hype if you take too long to release it, you lose the surprise.  Sure it would avoid a few messes, but what were the chances someone would leak it?
