broken flat screen cable connector on ds lite -

i put a new case on a ds lite and since then its not worked.
when i switch it on i get the green light for a second, then the bottom screen flickers then thats it!

i have spent a couple of weeks googling to find possible reasons and it seemed to be that it would be either the fuses or the flat connector that links the top and bottom screen.

i checked the fuses and they were fine and the flat cable seemed to be in correctly but still no joy

anyway...to cut a long story short i disassembled the unit and checked the cable again and I found that it is actually split where it was rolled up to fit it in and out of the shell during assembly. I`m certain I didn`t cause this as I was super careful so I guess that when it was put together it was done very heavy handed and when I disturbed it then its cracked.

in a nutshell I need a new cable. Anyone help with how or where I many get one from?
Thx :)

this is what i can see under a microscope, looks fair knackered to me!?
I`m presuming that all these lines need to be continuous?

DealExtreme dont sell ribbon cables for the nds lite the one you linked to is for the phat

bwfcboy

thx, i managed to get a new top screen which seems to have the ribbon already on it for £10 delivered.
although i spent hours, days and weeks googling `ds repair` i spent no time googling `ds parts` ;D

is there any electronics bods who could confirm that the pics show my problem. im presuming its obviously that and this has happened during the 6 weeks the ds was used with a missing hinge and then me disturbing it has split it?

look im a DS MODDING NOOBIE give me a break lol!! :P

I assumed the cables were the same doh!

anyway bwfcboy has sorted it now anyhow ;)

looking at the photo I'm no expert but can see that a hole in it will not be good at all for it!

jmr

ive got a phat with a torn ribbon cable to the top screen but mine still powered up & worked with the bottom screen only
my cable is torn half way across as well

NDS-Fan

There are some lines that have to be ok, otherwise the nds wont start.
Maybe bwfcboy damaged one of these.

well the problem i have (top screen flashes for a second) seems to point directly to the ribbon being the fault although usually it seems that not being plugged in is the problem.

I`m just crossing my fingers here that this is the fault. So far I have spent £31 on bits.
I could have sent it to Nintendo and had it done and got 12 month warranty for £55 but wheres the fun in that eh! :)

thx for all responses so far.

That's the exact reason I bought a new PHAT case for my sons DS and a Tri-wing screwdriver total cost for both about £5 I fitted it myself thanks to JMR's guide .. an hour later or so result one happy KID one £50 richer dad! lol ...

also recently fixed a busted PSP screen also from DX  again sony wanted £50 I paid bout £18 and that took me just 10 minutes to replace :)

I really don't know why they want to extort us out of mass amounts of money for an hour or less work :(

If Nintendo charged £25 that would of been more acceptable than wanting almost the price of a new/pre owned ds minus games!

one day this thing will work again!!!!!!!!! :-\ :-\ :-\

so i got the new screen and put it in and put it all back together and its working again.

hurrah.....but no....cos I`ve dislodged the tiny connector that controls the touch screen function.

how in the heck are you supposed to get that back in. any ideas anyone?
thats all thats wrong with it now then its back in rude health  :)

?? is it the ribbon connector? is it snapped/locked in correctly !?

heres a guide on GBATEMP here :)

bwfcboy

no its not that. the problem i have now is the touch screen is not working

this connection in the picture which I believe is what makes the touch screen system work won`t go back in, it just pops back out.

i tried holding and pushing with fine tweezers but it just isn`t biting at all.

NB this pic is off google, its not my motherboard but there is no sign of damage on mine

not up on DS lites connectors but assuming they are kinda the same where the ribbon cable connects  ....have a look at this video posted elsewhere  here by bitblt

watch when the cables are unlclipped there is like a slider that holds the smaller cable tightly in place (@2 mins 30).. does yours have the slider to lock the cable in??

im sure JMR or others could confirm if it has some locking mechanism to hold the cable in place :)

bwfcboy

ITS WORKING AT LAST!! HAHA  :) :) :) :)

that connector flicks upwards from the back, then you have to feed the little flat wire in and push it back down.
it was a real pig to get in, I had to disconnect the screen completely so I could get a good angle to push it in, then i just pushed the clip back down.

if anyone needs any advice about DS Lite repairs I am now a world expert.
I`ve had this one in bits so many times I can put it back together in minutes now and I know where all the connections are.
Not bad considering 2 months ago I didn`t have a clue ;D
