Im so faaaaaar behind on DS stuff, its not even funny. Could someone point me in the right direction? What mod/mods work with the new DSi and which is the best so far (if there is one or more).

If you mean flashcarts theres the TTDSi and the Acekard2i. I know theres some R4 clone hat works on the DSi but I wouldnt trust it lol. There may be others but I have not payed much attention.

kkan

not got a DSi but would recommend the AK2i as it has regular OFFICAL support as well as UNOFFICAL with the AKAIO  :)

I would avoid the TTDS due to too many clones out there and R4 for the same thing that its OBVIOUSLY not from the real R4 team we all know now of their demise!

Exactly kkan. Those clones are starting to get on my nerves, it makes flashcart buying alot tougher than what it needs to be.

It is theoretically possible for Nintendo to block these new DSi flash carts with a firmware update. It hasn't happened yet, but it could. So you should either wait or get a cart that's flashable. I know the EZ-5 is, so the EZ-5i should be as well. I don't know about the others either way.

I thought i read that you should wait until the US DSi unit comes out. Because the latest flashcarts are all based on the japanese DSi's. I haven't followed it in the last couple weeks, but i thought that is what people were suggesting.

Makes sense to me.

This is true, but even if they do work on US DSis Nintendo could still release a FW update later.

good job your still waiting ....

European DSi more resistant to homebrew

When the Japanese DSi came out, homebrewers went to work on the platform. At least they tried to, but were met with some limitations. Nintendo obviously tried a bit harder to keep those flash carts off the system, but they couldn’t stop everything.

Now, with the DSi launching around the rest of the world very soon, it seems that Nintendo has once again went to work on shutting down flash carts. In the European DSi, it seems that even more measures were taken to block out this kind of activity. While the Japanese DSi had no problem running the acekard 2i, the Euro DSi won’t even start the device up. Just another hurdle for the homebrewers/pirates to tackel.

the USA release is no doubt the same CRAP! :(

Damn, just wasted some money!

uzumakishade

im sure the flashcart developers will find a way to work around new firmware updates/block them just like with the psp and wii have done

What about the EZ-Flash VI? I heard that works on the DSi. Don't know too much else about it though.  Maybe a topic to explore...

rommy667

Ive  a EZ-FLASH Vi workes perfect on my friends jap dsi then again so did my acekard 2i till i bricked the dsi mode in it :( messing with YSmenu ooops, but i guess its ok as the acekard 2i wont work on a EU dsi anyway,im hopeing the EZ will work on the day,or at least we can hope for a update for the kernal if it needs one..........

fexo

Well, we've just cancelled the DSi pre-order and sent my son to hunt through the house for his DS which has been "mislaid" for 4 months (and only 6 months old!).

We'll wait to see what happens.

I just posted this on GBATEMP regarding that the AK2i works on AUS DSi consoles apparently!?

this is my response to this :-

QuoteMaby .... it wasnt tested properly or the AceKard 2i was an EARLY FIRST RUN and the hardware in the AceKards were revision updates in later cards or even different chipsets aka AK2 and AK2.1 ...that could be feesable !?

unless it was the same person that confirmed the USA one not working that tested the AUS one too!?

I would like to see a lot MORE TESTS by MORE PEOPLE before confirming 100% that the AK2i DOES or DOES NOT work for definite on USA/AUS and EUR DSi consoles smile.gif

was the original confirmation of failure from just 1 person or loads?!

a PROPER TEST would involve several AK2i cards and several DSi consoles to eliminate bad cards or card slots etc!

if they say it works on AUS consoles but not USA ones then whats changed?! doubt that NINTY would stop a preduction run and add new hardware ... or recode an update and apply it to EUR consoles first .... seems like a lot of messing about to me !?

kernel updates are pretty feesable ... look at the FAKE TTDS bricker recovery nds tool that reloads the firmware .bin file to make it work again!

so the AK2i card could be reprogrammed in this way easily!

ok the thread over there is getting more interesting now ..
