Anyone been messing around with Waninkoko's USB Lodaer 1.1? Incase anyone doesn't know it allows you to rip your Wii games to a USB hard drive and boot the games from the drive (like the old XboX modding days!!). I got around to installing it tonight and it works perfectly. I only wish we could rename our games as it gives them some funky names sometimes, but im sure those features will be added soon. It only took about 1 minute 30 secs to rip Wii Sports and about 25min to rip Madworld. This thing is awesome!

That sounds really good.  Does it boot from HBC?

Sorry to sound like a numpty but is it just an app or do you need to overwrite some of the built in OS ?

Yes or you can make it a channel.

Does that mean you have to install their cios or does it just load as an app

You will have to have the hard drive formatted in the new WBFS file system. Then you can use a GUI WBFS app to transfer the iso's to the hard drive. No need to burn them to disc and then rip.

Here is a installable .wad for the channel (the Homebrew Channel version is included if you want to use it instead): http://www.mediafire.com/file/hnzmktzim4q/USB_Loader.1.1s_mod1.01_by_Sorg.zip

It is Sorgs modified USB Loader 1.1. Here is what he fixed:

QuoteThis my tweaks for USB loader:

1) shows list of 21 entries instead 6.
2) more adequate navigating by left and right keys.
3) Doesn't attempt to switch TV mode before load game (uses default TV mode instead). Original loader tries to switch TV mode according to game region which makes PAL games unplayable on TV not supporting PAL modes (NTSC-U/J Wii) and NTSC games on TV not supporting NTSC modes (PAL Wii). Now i can play Mario Kart PAL and Wii Chess PAL on my NTSC-U Wii!

-----------------------------
Update v1.01:

1) added simple version of loader without adding/deleting games and format drive. Useful for children/some pleople.
2) Sorting now is case insensitive.

archive includes:
1) source code with my modifications
2) folder to use in Homebrew Channel (full and simple)
3) Channel version of this loader in WAD format (full and simple).
Here are the pics of it:

Got all this from Wiinewz.com

thanks DeVS ive been away for two days so ive missed alot of progress with the usb loader

im now using a 1.8" 20GB ipod HDD (toshiba mk2004GAL) with generic usb enclosure which gives me a few more game then my 8GB kingston with usb adapter

I use this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136247

Very small, but with alot of hard drive space. It is also powered by the usb so no need to an external power source. It looks very nice sitting ontop of the Wii. It's roughly the size of an iphone.

Also now you can install games as individual channels. Crazy good stuff happing in the Wii scene now days!

This is great news! I will let this roll out a little with updates then go to it (maybe, well as long as i can hold out, maybe just a day or two, when i am off work).

I have tried this, but can't get the thing installed; it appears to be a 3.4 problem. GBAtemp says that i have to remove a IOS249 file to get it to work. I've checked, but I can only find a IOS245 file. I've tried the installation with both the WAD and the web based installer but both fail. I wanted to try a 250Gb WD drive which I have spare as I'm sick of picking the discs off the floor and putting them back into their boxes- damn children!

There are reports that it works with V4, but would this be the custom V4 rather than Nintendo's version?

Help would be appreciated as i don't want to appeal to those GBAtemp children!

can you not downgrade to 3.2 ive heard thats the best firmware?? i would not know how to do it but i think its possible
i still use 2.1 with no problems at all by the way.......
