This update is supposed to bring a slight speed increase to the browser and new font size and Twitter picture uploading but the main reason is no doubt this BLOCK on flash cards!

SO DO NOT UPDATE!

It will also Block access to the DSi shop until the update is performed AKA Wii style but sadly its not as easy to bypass like the Wii :(

post from NORMATT on Gbatemp

QuoteBlocks AK2i, Iplayer, EZVi and likely M3Ri, SCDS1i and DSTTi

note not sure what M3Ri is?! if its a clone he's not replied yet to that question?!

This is the time where The ZERO card and other HARDWARE updateable cards will be tested no doubt!

SO AGAIN JUST TO REMIND YOU DO NOT UPDATE!

Thanks for the heads up, can anyone confirm it blocks the DSi ?

I don't see it being the main reason for the update though, it's innevitable they'll do all they can to block them with each update so let the game of cat and mouse begin.

Personally I see them going all online content in future, that will solve the problem, especially if you don't buy them in shops but could download them from a shop in case you have no internet....

If I find a friend with a DSi and no desire to run homebrew, I'll test the SCDSi.  Either that or wait a few days for someone else to test.

Looks like this might be the first practical test of the SCDSi's firmware updater.

EDIT:  I should check the rest of the new threads before posting, heh.

I messaged the M3i ZERO team through handheld sources forum link (if the forum is by them and real) and they said they will look into it :)

did you contact the iplayer team as thats been blocked as well hasnt it?.... is there a way to upgrade the firmware/bootloader on it?? will you have to stay with 1.3 to use the iplayer on a DSi???

I wonder if the Nintendo DSi is pressure on Nintendo by publishers and studios that the game sales on the DS are being cannibalized by the flash cards.  I certainly didn't buy the DSi because I spotted the firmware update protections being introduced on the DSi.  Managing Wii firmware is enough insanity for me.

I traded in a ds lite and a few other bits and bobs of gaming stuff for my DSi that I didn't need  :)

...So far I like it ... it came with 1.2 firmware so waiting like the rest of the up-datable cards for the M3 team to come through with their update ..afaik they are working on it I asked the M3 support via PM on the M3i Zero forum.... this was their reply from 'support'

QuoteWhen an update is ready to be released it will be announced here and on our homepage.

not really much to go on but better than no reply at all!

Update!

For all those who just got out/escaped from a cave for the last couple of weeks. SuperCard team has finally made a update that will get past the 1.4 firmware. You can find it here:

http://eng.supercard.sc/

It's listed as the Augest 22nd item. (as of this post it's the very first news item on top).

Here's a video I made of the update and may be instructional for those who don't know how to do the update:

Haha! SuperCard beat M3i to the update. AceKard came in first (or maybe an R4 clone got updated first...not sure) M3i has yet to be updated.... :D

I have cameras in your head!

kkan

Yeah they are ALL catching up now!

Cards that can be updated now to bypass the 1.4 are

Supercard as mentioned
Acekard 2i
EZ FLASH Vi
M3i ZERO (came out yesterday 25/8/09)
iPlayer (Came out today (26/8/09) and you don't need another ds and can even be done on a 1.4 updated DSi!)
a few R4 cards (these are EZflash clones can be updated)

for the record EZFLASH won the race then came R4 clones and then AK2i,Supercard,m3i and then shock and surprise the Iplayer which stunned us all not even needing a pre 1.4 DSi or a DSPHAT/DSLITE to make the update!

dantheman

R4 clones only came second because the Hyper R4i is actually a hardware copy of the EZ-Vi.

I'm rather surprised that the iPlayer can be updated.  Didn't think they would plan that far ahead.
