I'm finding lots of new PS3 stuff on Usenet newsgroups this weekend . . .

PS3 USB Firmware Loader v0.2

Quote
Whether you consider it the first, second or third step â€"
it’s a step in the direction of PS3 custom firmware: JaicraB’s
USB Firm Loader. Load [customized] PS3 firmware files off a USB stick
   in a few simple steps:
Download PS3 FTP Server. Install it. Connect.
Download and copy the entire “dev_flash” folder to your USB mass
   storage devices’ root directory.
Copy JaiC_USB_FIRM_LOADER.pkg to the root too.
   Install USB Firm Loader.
   Now run USB Firm Loader with the USB mass storage device attached;
it should return you to the XMB with the firmware loaded off the USB stick.

This wi’ll be used for loading modified RCOs, plugins / modules,
etc. USB Firm Loader v0.2 is an early release, so bugs are likely
to exist. You will also need PSGroove with peek & poke sys-calls.
Our compiled binaries for select AVR USB boards should work.

PS3 Awesome File Manager v0.03

Quote
   Update: Awesome Filemanager v0.03:
   Added scrolling.
   Added non-empty folder deletion.
Added a security option (normal Mode/Advanced mode) where
normal mode will only allow write access in /usb_dev and /usb_hdd0/game.
Added the ability to backup up files over 4GB to external; files
are split when copied to the external device; files are merged when
   copied back to the internal.
Fixed a hang-bug with folders with many files.

   D-Pad to navigate
   up/down to navigate through files
left/right to switch the active directory listing
   X to enter a directory
O to copy the selected file (no directory) to the inactive directory listing.
[] to delete the selected file.

   Known problems:
Not possible to copy/delete any files with spaces in it
When copying things to the external USB, the files are marked as
system files. Windows will not display them unless you enable show
   hidden system files
Fonts are too small on a SD screen (will be fixed in the next version)
Everything “hangs” when copying till it’s done

Team Hell-Hacker PS3 Backup Manager Stealth Moded

Quote
Copy the PKG to a FAT32 USB, in the root of it and start installing through Install Package Files on your Jailbroken PS3

This PKG is Compatible only with 3.41 Firmware 4 PS3
PS3 BM-Stealth is Based on Resident Evil 5 EU ID

That means when you use the Manager PSN will sow SONY that you use Resident Evil 5 Game:

This Version is Alpha Stage.
Tested and confirmed that it works.

Bluray Backup Works.
Play Backups Works.
Stealth ( Works )

Games are still in Gamez order.

PS3 Game update guide for Jailbroke PS3's

Quote
What you need:

*PS3 Proxy Server.
*PSN Demo Installer {OR} Demo Manager.
*A Jailbroke PS3.
*A PC connected to the same network as
your PS3.
*PS3 FTP Server.

First off you need to run PS3 Proxy Server:
------------------------------------------

Under proxy settings check PS3 Mode and enter
your PC's local IP address (not your internet
?IP, i.e 192.168.0.10) Now click Start and
select the "Logs" tab.

Now you need to alter your PS3's network settings:
-------------------------------------------------

On your PS3 go to Settings>Network Settings>
Internet Connection Settings>Custom>
Depending on your network setup choose Wired
or Wireless, Now keep going right until you
see "Proxy Server" select and change to use
now enter your PC's IP address (in my case
192.168.0.10).
Once you have done this proceed to the end and
save the changes you have made.

Right, Now you need to run Backup Manager:
----------------------------------------

Load the game you want to update.
When you start the game you should be
presented with the option to update (that fails
to install while jailbroke), Start the update
process but when the update is showing as 1%+
downloaded cancel it.

Before you go back to your PC you should Load
the PS3 FTP Server, start the service and make
note of your PS3's IP address.
(If you haven't installed this it is the same
install process as the backup manager but
using PS3-FTP-Server.pkg)

Now go back to your PC:
----------------------

On the top line of the Logs tab on PS3 Proxy
Server you should see a URL, This is the update
your PS3 just attempted to download, Download
it on to your PC Saving it in to a folder named
after the game you wish to update.

Once the download is finished open
PSN Demo Installer (Demo Manager can also be
used but for this guide I have used PSN Demo
Installer)

Now if your dealing with a large file say over
50MB I would use a separate FTP app to send
the files over as FTP over PSN Demo Installer
Is not very fast compared to the 11MBps I get
sending files to the internal hdd with FlashFXP

**So if its a small file or you don't have a FTP
-----------------------------------------------
app follow this:
---------------

Click Select PKG and browse you the update file
you just downloaded, You should see the Content
ID and Package file values change.

Change the Package Name to the name of the game
you are updating, i.e one of mine was:
Little Big Planet Update 1.30

If this is the first one you have sent leave the
Task Folder as 1, If you plan to add more updates
just increase it by one each time you select
another PKG file to upload.

Now click Upload files:
----------------------

Type your PS3's IP address (If you have single
or double digits in the IP you should prefix
the with 0, So my IP becomes 192.168.000.010)
Now click upload.

If all goes well you should see the progress
bar moving albeit slowly.

**For the Large updates or PSN games:
------------------------------------

As I wrote for the small updates above click
Select PKG browse and open your downloaded
update and change the Package Name But
instead of selecting Upload click Create .pdb
You will be asked to select a folder to save
the files to, I would select the folder that
contains the downloaded update.

Now fireup your FTP software, Connect to
the PS3 and navigate to:

/dev_hdd0/vsh/task/

Once in the directory you need to create a
folder with 8 numbers, So task folder 1
would be 00000001, task folder 2 would be
00000002 and so on.

Now copy the 3 files that were created by
PSN Demo Installer (d0.pdb, d1.pdb, f0.pdb)
and the downloaded PKG file in to the new
folder.

i.e
/dev_hdd0/vsh/task/00000001/d0.pdb
/dev_hdd0/vsh/task/00000001/d1.pdb
/dev_hdd0/vsh/task/00000001/f0.pdb
/dev_hdd0/vsh/task/00000001/EP9000-BCES00510_00-PATCH00000000000-A0101-V0100-PE.pkg

That's it, All you need to do now is power off the PS3 remove the jailbreak
device power up as normal and run the package updates that will appear under
the GAME menu.

DeVS

Hermes has released a new fork of the PSgroove that allows you to run the hack without a game in the PS3. You have to use the new back up manager also though. It breaks the compatibility of some games though. Now all we need is support for NTFS and were all set!

Yeah, it would be great if they can get NTFS working for those PS3 games with files larger than 4GB.  I would also like to see custom firmware for PS3 that eliminates the need to perform the USB exploit.

blackb0x PRESENTS - A PROPER PS3 FTP SERVER

Quote
FTP Server 1.0b

Well since no one has released a bug free, speedy, easy to
use FTP server we decided to take the reigns on it.
Introducing FTP Server 1.0b, it doesn't crash, it doesn't
byte shift, and most importantly, it doesn't suck.
Oh, and its threaded for speedy transfers :)

Instructions:

Install the pkg to your ps3 (you should know how to do
this by now) then run blackb0x FTP.  You can now connect
to your PS3 via the PC FTP client of your choice.  Just
fill in your PS3's ip, port 21, and leave username, and
password blank. To quit the app either press X, or quit
via ingame XMB.

Tested with FileZilla, FlashFXp, CuteFTP, and WinSCP

Expect more tools from us in the future for the PS3

Releases:

9/23/10 - FTP Server 1.0b
9/12/10 - LV2Dump 0.7a

How to play games with files over 4GB on fat32. [tutorial]

Quote from: inf1;533067okey, it has been tested on Uncharted 2 and works fine so far.

1) download http://www.chipovka.net/PSARC.zip
2) Extract zlib.net.dll and PSARC.exe to any folder.
3) Find any files more than 4Gb for example  \PS3_GAME\USRDIR\build\main\pak22.psarc (5 596 444 529 byte)
4) Copy pak22.psarc into  zlib.net.dll and PSARC.exe directory.
5) Extract pak22.psarc (just drag-n-drop pak22.psarc to PSARC.exe)
6) Now copy pak22 folder with extracted files to gamefolder  \PS3_GAME\USRDIR\build\main\
7) Now you can delete pak22.psarc.
8.) copy PS3_GAME folder with game to your external fat32 usb hdd GAMEZ\Uncharted2\
9) use backup manager to load game, should work fine.

well, probably you can play any game with files over 4GB.

XMBoot.v1.0.PS3-JB
Quote
XMBoot is a stripped down backup app which will allow you
to create the equivalent of a 360 QuickBoot container.

This allows you to create a custom entry on your XMB with
the original audio/video from your backup with which you
can either boot DIRECTLY into your game (if supported),
or mount it for launching via XMB.

SmallLoader v0.2
Quote
To quote, roughly translated, on SmallLoader:
"TheTool offers a loader used shortcuts in the
XMB to rip up a game in the drive without going
through virtual BR open the backup manager or manager."

OpenSplit v1.0
Quote
This little tool lets you split the BIG files (bigger than 4GB)
in your games, so that you can use them with Open Manager 1.0
for the ps3.

PS3 Game Ripper v3.0

Open Backup Manager v1.16

Quote
Games that are fixed with Open Manager v1.13
1- Street fighter 4.
2- Super street fighter 4.
3- Eye Pet (Move game)
4- F1 2010 (everybody here eventually got it working )
5- NBA 2K11.
6- White Album (A Japanese visual novel/game)
7- Racket Sports (Move game)
8- Mortal combat (Move game)

Open Manager has the next features:

- Supports up to 512 items from two USB devices, internal hdd and bluray

- Ability to copy games from bdvd to hdd0 or USB’s, from hdd0 to USB’s
or from USB’s to hdd0. It is done asking to you the destination device.
It use uses asynchronous reading and writing for fast copy.

- Special support for big files in FAT: it splits files >= 4GB using
.666xx fragments (if the file is name.ext, the file splits as
name.ext.66600, name.ext.66601,…). This file is not bootable and it is
marked using ‘_’ as folder prefix. The file is joining when you copy it
to hdd0 device

- Automatically finds the path of the games and asks to you about it.
In other case, if the Open Manager is installed in the hdd0 creates one.
You can change it pressing L2+START later.

- Including checking game option (pressing L1). It displays information
about the files, size, splits or big files, if it have one.

- Support for Homebrew: you can creates “homebrew” folder in root USB
FAT device and put here others folders with an EBOOT.BIN (.self format)
and one ICON0.PNG. Also you can use the internal hdd0. Homebrew is
launched directly and receive the path in argv[0].

- FTP support to upload homebrew: open_manager uses “OMAN46756? as user,
by default. I recommend flashfxp to use it, because FTP support is not
very good…

NOTE: Open Manager works with Hermes payload update. So,if you
return from game list, apps_home can launch gamaes without one disc
(some games don´t work without any disc), but if you return from Homebrew,
apps_home works from usb000
