Hectic

well whatever the problem is, one thing is for sure, the ds is different and more tempermental with some non-official cartridges, and not only the supercard.  maybe it's a different problem with the supercard than with the fa 128 turbo, but both crash within a short period of time on the ds.

Lynar

Did anyone notice that most of people who have this problem use large CFs? I mean usually larger than 128 or 256 MB... I'm completely not acquaint with it, but who knows? I haven't heard about problems with 128 MB cards or 256 Kingston. I don't know if it's because of that noone uses them, or they work with DS well...
Anyone tried 128 MB or 256 MB Kingston cards? I know that user called NTolerance used Kingston and it worked fine. It would be good, if it worked fine with others' supercards.

btw. sorry for my english.

Most, if not all, are also using High-Speed CF cards.

However, it is obviously not the CF cards that are to blame.  I believe we will be receiving news soon from Romman in regards to this subject...

Just thought I'd add my experiences to the thread.

I bought an original sc (needed a bit cut out to fit into the ds) about a month back for my ds. It worked perfectly with a 128mb Kodak cf (no lock ups). I somehow managed to bend a couple of pins in the cf slot and they must have touched and my ds shorted out  :( . Luckily I managed to get the ds replaced.

I then ordered a 1024mb Kingston cf card and a sc (new version, no modding required for ds). Some, but not all, games lock up when I use this card (usually quite quickly). I then bought a 512mb non-name brand cf card and the same games locked up but usually after a longer time.

I've recently tried a 64mb Memorex cf card and the original Kodak 128mb cf card and both work perfectly, no lock ups  :) .

My experience seems to match Lynar's theory that the sc when used in a ds cannot handle large capacity cf cards.

p_noodles:  I bet your 64 MB and 128 MB CF cards are slower than your 512 MB CF card, which is slower than your 1 GB CF card.

hi,

"good news everyone"

it seems that the problem with the ds has nothing to do with cf and only apears on few "bad" sc.

the shop where i bought it, testet them and it seems the new delivery of sc has no (or only little) "bad" sc.

so - i replace my sc with a newer one - and i do not have any troubles now.

excange the sc with a "newer" version - this should fix all problems

there will be no firmware fix for this sc-ds error - only thing you can do is replace it.

regards

Lynar

You mean that every CF card will work correctly on a "good" SC with DS?

C_L_M

i cannot promisse that every cf will work - but those cf that work with sc + gba should also work on ds too.

in the delivery where i got my sc originaly  - about 50% of the sc where "bad" and did not work with ds (but still work with gba) - in the latest delivery the shop got - all tested sc worked. thats what i heard from my merchant.

Well, it may be a bit offtopic, but...
What 256 MB CF card would you all recommend to use with SC+DS? I'm planning to buy a Kingston 256, but still not sure if this is a good choice...

GBAFreak

Since I have 'retailer-contacts', I can confirm that romman actually acknowledged the 'DS problem'. Seems that in about 2000 supercards, the voltage was not as it should be. However, in the new batches delivered, this problem should be solved.

For now, I can confirm that roughly about half the cards now delivered, are without problems, but the other half still is faulty.  The cards that still aren't working work better, but still not as good as they should.

So.. If you have a supercard that gives problems on your DS, ask your supplier to exchange it for a good one, it definitly IS a SC-problem.

Deadmon

So this is probably the answer I been looking for :O

Should I ask kicktrading to see if I can get an exchange? (I would need a reason, which I'm going to use from the user a few posts above)

My Kingston 256MB card works great with my SC/DS, but I have the older version that doesn't suffer from the CF compatiblity issues.  Your main concern should be to make sure you have a working Supercard and not one from the bad batch.

Yes, definitely ask them for an exchange.

Lynar

Finally got my SC and Kingston 256 CF - and it seems to be working fine with my DS.
Generally, GBA roms are running nice - there are some slowdowns  in Sword of Mana though and some less popular roms don't work (Broken Sword, Samurai Jack: The Amulet of Time). Anyways, luckily the SC isn't "bad" or sth.

joshob2004

My supercard works fine with my DS I only use it with my DS as I sold my SP to help pay for it.
