The Nintendo DS has 2 diffrent Touch screens?

I had an OLD DS and the Touch Screen was just blank..

I have a New Blue DS and I noticed that the touch screen seemed Softer... and it had all these white dots on it.  Is it a screen protector made by nintendo? Or... what is it O_O?

There are several versions of the touch screen. I have a launch day NDS (or at least one of the first they made) and it has the dots.
The difference is not much in commercial games, but some HB has problems with certain screens.

I got my gray DS in December of 2005, and I also seem to have "dots" on my touchscreen.  Do any non-Lite owners out there have different touchscreens?  This is interesting, because I've never heard of this difference before.

As far as I know, the USA releases have a protector on the screen as the Asia releases don't.

I have an asian grey version [Hong Kong/Macau version], and the dots are very apparent.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

I've played around with at least six different DS's.
The ones I've seen made after mid 2005 seemed more plasticy, and only one of the DS's had the white dotty touch screen.  It was the Red Mario-Kart DS.  I changed the firmware on three of them, all of which hung at the Picto Chat test, one turned blue, the other pink.

So yeah, from my experience, the griddy screen seems less frequent.

2 kinds of screen are apparent.
grain and grid.
grain - has the dots and its a better quality screen overall.
grid - cheaper less sturdy screen, nintendo help take more of these back for repair.
and there are no protectors as standard on any DS.thats just complete bollocks.

Touchscreen faq from GameFaqs.com...

I have a Blue DS with dotted screen, it seems that there's a space between the screen cover and the actual touch screen so it feels softer.

Yeah I have the same exact DS.. And the touch screen is actually very sensetive despite the protector..

IAs I said before, I have a metroid silver NDS, and the screen is not as soft as a blue NDS I used later. But the dots are there, They are difficult to see (only on direct sunlight, and in a certain angle) so I think the dots are part of the touch screen, and not a protector. (But I don't deny that newer NDS may have protectors from factory)
