Refresh my memory. Stealth is with the Health Warning intact... and Regular has the Health Warning removed... correct.

So does the new Flashme Lite seem to work and work well? No problems so far?

sneef

yep.  stealth boots with health warning.  non-stealth has the nice fade-in effect with no health warning.

So far, I've had no problems with flashme_lite.  I am glad I did it.

Only thing is what I mentioned before.  If I play in DS mode (from supercard), while the AC adapter is plugged in, it defaults to the highest brightness.  only when in passthrough mode. gba mode and normal DS carts work as normal.

maybe loopy will be able to fix that with the final release of flashme_lite

So if you have the AC plugged in... it defaults to the highest brightness level? Can you switch at that point to a lower setting?

I have heard a few horror stories of the DS Lite and shorting the SL1 Bridge... and bricking. Any comments?

I bit the bullet... Flashed it with no problems. The SL1 bridge seems to be a little more touchy, but just take your time. I used a eyeglass screwdriver and slowely rotate it in the SL1 bridge until it makes contact and starts flashing. Only takes a few seconds, BUT take you time and don't freak out.

One question... how do you change the brightness settings while in the Supercard menu? Can you also do it while in a game?

sneef

no. even before flashing, the ds lite only lets you adjust brightness in the DS menu.  You can't adjust from within a game, though it is possible, Alite.nds is proof-of-concept.

all i was saying is that even if you have it set to the lowest setting, once you boot into supercard menu (or m3 or whatever you are using) with flashme enabled (DS mode) your light will still be what you set it at, but if you plug the adapter in, it will suddenly become super-bright.  just a little glitch.

I wish there was a brightness controller on the DS Lite, like how on the GBMicro you can press L+volume up or volume down to control the light.  too bad they didn't make a hardware backlight controller so you could adjust in-game.

moviecouple

OK. Got it. I thought that I had heard that you could adjust the Brightness level from within the Supercard menu with the Flashme Lite beta.

When Loopy finishes the tweaks and it moves out of Beta... I can just Flash the NDS Lite again with the final version... right? Should have no problems?

I just flashed with the flashme lite beta - NO problems- ALITE continues to work, and the DS remembers my lighting setting after power off.

I met with the fateful "while shorting, the power magically shut off" while flashing.  It HAS to be missing the SL1 and shorting against the system board.  Happened twice.  Fortunately, it was at 24% both times - so no problems recovering.

Otherwise, I'm in good shape!  Appears to be good to go!

I've been wondering about that possibility.  If you can positively identify that as being the cause of the DSlite power off problem, then we have something real we can warn people about.  Perhaps it's an easy mistake to make with the DSlite? This would be good investigation work darkuni.

Odd thing I had was the second I bridged SL1 the DS Lite would turn off, I then downloaded the FlashMe in the Current folder and it worked straight off  :?

I wish I felt comfortable enough to poke round the SL1 to see if its true. :)

What I WILL do is try to be VERY careful and flash it another dozen times or so and see if I can reproduce the power off while being DAMN sure NOT to stray.  I am REALLY confident that this IS the problem.

MY GUESS is that one of the SL1 pads IS a ground or something, and touching it to something inside NOT part of the other pad causes a ground fault (or something like it) and the unit shuts down.

The trick will be coming up with something that reduces the chance of "straying" off the pads - that way we can recommend to people WHAT to use instead of something that WILL stray (like the screwdriver tip).

I created the "tin foil toothpick" and that worked twice in a row with NO problems and NO 'grinding around' looking for the contacts.  As a bonus, I wrapped it so that it BARELY fit, and the foil tends to hold it in place while the flashing happens.  The fat size keeps it pretty straight in too.

If I can be sure the toothpick thing works every time, I'll shoot a video on how to make one and fit it before you flash.

I asked Loopy to include an AUDIBLE feature that will allow us to 'flash' without "reaching around" while trying to look at the front the whole time.  I think that's where we tend to 'get sloppy' and 'make mistakes'.  We'll see what happens :)

You mean like a tone that indicates that it's been shorted?  that's a good idea! as long as it's not some very harsh, nerve-wracking tone that would make us even more nervous!

darkuni

Ya, a nice, soothing click or something .. and a tone when it is done.

I'd breathe easier.

Sneef,

Does Alite work with the new beta Flashme Lite? Just wondering if you can change the Brightness while in the Supercard menu?

darkuni

Using ALite, yes ... it still works...

Basically:

1) You can bypass the SC and go to the DS menu, and permanently change the backlight settings

or

2) From Supercard menu, run ALITE, set the brightness, return to menu, and play game.

Tried using Alite. Got it to adjust the brightness, but it says hit A+B to go back to the Supercard menu... but it just locks up and then I have to reboot.
