I tried it out just now, it seems to work fine, but bear in mind this is a beta!  Brightness settings are adjustable now.

Look in this thread to find out more and to get the flashme:

hey ratx.. is yours the first beta flashme lite, or the second one?  i heard that the second one caused someone's backlite to stick on full brightness. (at gbatemp) and that Alite stopped working, so no more adjustment for supercard (but m3 was ok)...

badbob

I'm using the second one, don't seem to have any problems like the guy on gbatemp, but don't really understand what is saying about his NDS mode from GBA.  Mine is working fine in GBA and NDS mode.

edit -
i am just changing my brightness mode in the menu, no need for alite or anything

flashme lite works great!  one weird glitch that can be easily misinterpreted:  if your AC adapter is plugged in, your brightness will be stuck on level 4 (brightest) when in DS mode (flashme activated).

unplug your AC adapter, everything will be adjustable. thanks loopy!!!

by NDS mode from GBA, he meant in "passthrough mode" where NDS code is being served from GBA slot.  that's what he was trying to say.  in other words "passme/flashme active mode" as opposed to standard DS mode where there is no passthrough device or flashme active.

Sneef: the older betas are found in the "older" folder... I only added that a little while ago in case you think you're going mad and it wasn't there before... ;)

Flashed with a toothpick wrapped in aluminium foil, worked without a single problem!

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum. I have just finished flashing my DS lite (should be from the latest batch Nintendo has released in Japan - it was received and shipped to me beginning of April). I have used the second version of the beta, as mentioned above, the non-stealth one.

One word of advice for would-be flashers : practice with your toothpick/screwdriver before even thinking about pressing that X B X B button combination to initiate the flash !

First, practice a few times without the DS being turned on; try to get a good firm bridge with your instrument on the two parts of the SL1 contact. If you are using a screwdriver like I was, try to have its tip as perpendicular to the SL1 contact gap as possible.

Also, once you have a good stable grip on it, try to practice pushing the screwdriver vertically a bit down against the DS and hold that grip for seconds at a time  _without the tip sliding at all_ . This was important during my flash; if I didn't push a bit, flashing didn't proceed. I had a perfectly flat screwdriver tip and tried my best to have the instrument as  vertical as possible. Still, in my case at least, the DS needed that push.

When you are satisfied, try the same routine with the DS switched on. Don't press any keys, don't load anything. Try bridging the SL1 contact and hold that position for about half a minute. If it worked the DS will still be switched on after you finish, otherwise it will be off. Although the latter happened to me three times, I was still able to switch back on and try again. I am not certain if I was just lucky but missing the spot repeatedly didn't blow up my DS.

Remember : it is better to fail the SL1 bridge procedure now than during flashing.

One last, maybe trivial, thing. During flashing, it helped me to stand in front of a big mirror with the DS facing it. I was able to see the flashing progress without having to turn the DS around and risk short-circuiting it. I lost bridging contact about 4 times. There was no problem; the DS just stood there showing the flashing percentage. Once I restored the bridge, flashing resumed.

Sorry for the length of this message, hope somebody finds it useful..

Oh, and .. Thank You Loopy for the firmware !!  :D

Bluecat

Potentially stupid question - my lite is already flashed, to upgrade to the new beta I'm assuming I can just run the NDS file, I don't have to go through the [horrific] shorting procedure again?

badbob

sorry, you have to short again

has anyone tried this FW with a regular NDS? I am wondering if you can adjust the screen brightness.... i might try it out tonight ... but am afraid of bricking my ds or otherwise making it inoperable...

EDIT: i have flashed my regular ds with it, screen brightness adjustment doesnt work and the only bug i can see with flashing your NDS with this FW is you cant turn OFF your backlight... but oh well no harm done (i am back to regular v7 FW

First time DS Lite flashers might want to read my latest addition to my DS Hacking page.
