Those of you who have bricked your DS Lite...

Any of you that have bricked your DS Lite and are ready to toss it, if you have a spare original DS, would you be willing to see if you can install the new Lite screens on the original DS? With all the replacement parts that are available for the original, I'm sure that sooner or later, you will be able to buy Lite screens and I'm wondering if they will work in the original.

first thing to find out is if the ribbon cable is even the same.  there should be some schematics or those photos from the FCC submission around..

I seem to remember an interview with the DS Lite designers a couple of weeks back, talking about how the top screen was a bespoke unit designed especially for the Lite due to the size constraints - with this in mind it probably wouldn't fit :)

A thinner LCD might not be an issue when installed in the thicker DS.  The deciding factors would be if the LCDs are physically the same width and height, and if the LCD to main board circuitry is the same?

I can't say for sure if it would work or not,

but I will say that no previous Gameboy systems have had 'drop-in' compatable screens. As far as ribbon cables go, the 'original' GBA style even had a couple of different ribbon configurations to deal with. I wouldn't doubt that these ds screens are 'mostly' compatable, though. and with a bit of work I'd think they'd go in.

I wonder if the specs for the screen are available at the website of whoever manufactured them for nintendo... Should be printed somewhere on the screen.

Nobody should ever throug away any videogame system broken or not.  Many people will pay alot for broken systems including me.  I dont think the new screens would work even if the ribbons were the right size the DS might have a different voltage on it and might not be able to power it. The light I think does use a differnt battery so I dont know

Usually (at least with laptop TFTs) the LCD itself may be a different make and have a different driver board (voltage converter), but the circuitry to the main board is the same.  I don't know if this is the case with DS?

Any update on this? Has anyone tried it?

Well it may be possible but it's not going to be simple.  The LCD ribbon harness is different for DSlite.
