I can confirm that the bios chips are plug and play.

I will be trying the ablove procedure out later today to try and fix my bricked lite.

I will take lots of pics and let you all know how it goes.  :D

It works!

Full details and pictures coming really soon.

That post originated from China, so this could be romman.

That is so friggin awesome news!!

I so hope it works for me...it would make flashing completely safe if you had a friend with a DS lite (apart from damaging the chip itself physically)...

Since you could try and try and try until you succeed :)

Hello tyke, after I finish all procedure as romman told, the Bricked NDSL still has same problem !!! Please post your details and pics as soon as possible, I really hope to solve my NDSL too

Hmm...I seem to have trouble opening my ds....any tutorials on that?

Sorry for the double post...

Stupid me got it open now, broke the plastic of the power switch, though, but I guess it's nothing that's not gluable, since it turns on fine when the battery is connected and you move the plate with a flat screwdriver. Won't happen with the new one, though, when it arrives, I hope, since it seems I have the hang of it now.

Now the question: is that thing in the upper left area really the BIOS? It is unpluggable, but still connected to a cable which I am a bit afraid to remove unless someone tells me that is really what I am looking for.

Hoping that Tyke will post his instructions soon! :) That would be very helpful!

Tips?

Another update:

Well, I continued experimenting. Seems I was right, that seems to be the only relatively large removable chip. The wire is removed by simply pulling it off. I practiced with my dead unit. Still not 100% sure that's the firmware chip, though...but...what else could be?

Now, the question is: is it worth it to risk bricking my new one by doing the temporary switch?

Well...knowing myself, I just know I'll try it.

Sorry for not getting the pics up yet.

Yeh the big chip on the left with the wire plugged in is what you need to unplug.

just pop the wire off.

Im building a page and the pics will be up tomorrow.

I can now confirm that the rescue using another DSL's firmware chip actually works!!!

Once you get your DSLs open (watch it, there's screws hidden under those small rubber legs!!!), just secure the battery using sticky tape, switch the firmware chip.

It's the thingy with a wire attached in the top left area. Just pull the wire off and unplug the chip, either taking the rubber padding beneath it with you on the chip or leave it there), do the same with the second one and switch them, or just put the working one on the bricked DSL.

Then boot it into SC DS mode (easy if the other one already has flashme, use a superpass or similar if not).

Right when it says "Press XBXB" switch back to the bricked firmware chip. Follow the instructions, short the thing you have to short (I used tweezers, worked like a charm), and done.

Put your DSLs back together. You now have two working ones.

great! it would be nice when you have some spare time to post some pics since I'm a total noob in electronics and I do not want to unplug the wrong wire if you know what I mean

great jobs guys

I had a power problem with my friends DS.  I tested both fuses and found F2 to be blown. It may be F1 in your case? I purchased a tri-wing screwdriver on eBay. To fix the DS I used a small bit of wire and solder to bridge the fuse in question. The DS works perfectly now.
