I had no luck with all that. Luckily I bricked my DS so I had to open it up and rescue it anyway, and while it was open a pair of tweezers was the only thing that did the job. Screwdrivers, Foil and Coat-Hangers (all (TM)) did not do the job.

new pics of my shorting tool!

Please give feedback.  I never flashed a ds lite yet..but am preparing for this challenge!

the problematic screw is the one in the opposite opening of the sl1 that is shown in this pic correct?

http://www.monroeworld.com/ds/hacking/fig5_lite.jpg

so cant we just cover that screw up with a small tube of electrical tape or some other such item?

i'm getting my lite on monday or tuesday, so i can try then

This worked ok for me in the end, after nearly bricking my Lite twice I had to get creative.

Just cut a short piece of a plastic straw and slice it lenghtways so you can roll it tighter and make it smaller in diameter.

Then just jam it down and around the screw next to SL1 therefore insulating it and hold it in place with your other hand while you short SL1 with whatever you can get to work.

Had to recover the flashme with my SD SC (hold start-select-a-b and powerup), for some strange reason my CF SC didn't want to rescue my "bricked" DS lite, I don't know why because I had flashme on the root of the memory card the same way on both CF and SD.

Anyway, hope this helps.

This is getting pretty confusing, according to the picture :

which side of the SL1 needs to be insulated? It looks like a full circle cut into 2 parts.. so which side is the correct one to insulate?

I'm just wondering if you could just put electrical tape over the screw itself.

The screw on the right of the above picture is what needs to be insulated before attempting to short SL1, any way you can, I found the hole too small to get enough tape to insulate it and I didn't have anything made of plastic small enough to push down the tape, that's why I insulated it with a cut piece of plastic straw.

using a plastic straw as an insulator sounds pretty good to me and should be perfect when accompanied by a flashing tool like this one:

[the infamous rolled up tin foil]

(make sure the tip is blunt i.e. rub it on a flat surface)

before, I used a flathead scredriver (what a fiddly business) but with this I've had NO problems whatsoever

So am I right to assume as long as I can find something to insulate the round screw which is supposedly very small, shorting of SL1 will be a lot safer? :?:

That is the idea yes. Basically, you want to in any possible way insure that you are going to short across SL1, but not touch that screw. I would recomend trying to cover the screw with something non-conductive, and make a tool to short SL1 that is conductive only on the bottom, such as a tin foil stick, blunt and flat at one end, covered in electrical tape.

Is the hole the same size as the one on the regular DS? I found a square nail that worked very well.

Is this tool for insulating the screw or shorting the SL1?

jbullfrog

it shorts the ds lite.  Haven't tested it yet though

it is a coat hanger with electrical tape and scotch tape wrapped around it.

Only the bottom shows metal.
