I don't have a ds lite so I haven't actually tried this. However I will be getting one so I am interested in getting the right tool for the job. I was thinking if you got say an odinary match. Then take a sewing pin with a very small spherical head and stuck the pin up through the match. With a bit of luck and a small enough pin head the match would come around the head of the pin and that would be your insulation. You could then use the head of the pin as your jumper. Even if the match doesn't supply insulation, the fact that the pin head is so small and spherical would mean that it wouldn't be inclined to move once pressure is applied to sl1.

Edit: What's more, you could even put insulation tape at the bottom edge of the match to supply further insulation.

Of course what I mean by needle is pin.

Let's produce them and make lots of money! We call it:

The Flash Key

Good idea. How about . . .

ShortMe key

or

MiniMe key
(Yeah baby! That would be so groovy man.)

or

KeyMe

I see a lot of ideas in here to make a tool.. but a simple finishing nail will do the trick.. just go straight down.. its very simple.

I agree with you 100%, it's very simple.  Yet people continue to screw the flashing procedure up.  I guess people are so excited to flash their DS they just poke around blindly with tin foil or whatnot?  Yes, a simple finishing nail will do the trick.

It isn't the tool itself that causes the problems.  It is the fact that you have to stuff the tool in that hole PERFECTLY at the same time you're trying to see if you're shorting it properly.  Anyone that hasn't done it 10 times is going to be anxious, inexperienced and prone to screwing it up.

The nice thing about the foill toothpick is:

1) If you wrap it big enough, it doesn't tend to wander once it is in the hole.
2) The end is a bit squishy, letting it form better to the SL1 jumper.  Normally once I'm connected, I don't lose the connection.

I'm thinking the best way for a total newbie to do this is to get a small pocket mirror, put it down in front of them, make sure they can see the screen while looking at the SL1.  Start the process XBXB, turn it over, and take their time doing the jumper piece - being careful to keep it straight.  I think with this set up, no one would brick their Lites.

On another note ... I heard rumor of a new Lite firmware that doesn't work with the Max Media Launcher/Passme2z - but I hear the ol' IQSRAM trick still works.

Anyone confirm this?  Or reference a thread?

Thanks!

Quote from: "Migoto"This is getting pretty confusing, according to the picture :

which side of the SL1 needs to be insulated? It looks like a full circle cut into 2 parts.. so which side is the correct one to insulate?

Is the SL1 really that small and just next to the screw which needs to be insulated so prone to being accidentally touched by the shorting tool while trying to flash the SL1?

bitblt

It's not a screw, it's two contact pads.  Just bridge the two (gold) semi-circles as close to the center of the hole as possible.  Use the mirror trick to hold the flashme progress screen toward a mirror, and carefully bridge the two semi-circles.  Avoid any contact with the second hole on the right, or anything else.

Devil_Spawn

cant you u just shove a piece of cardboard in the hole near the screw, so you cant short it??????????

Aisu

This information looks correct. I have also read that using a 5'64" drill bit wrapped in electric tape will also work. Here are some pics

just to let you all know the size of these tools looks quite large but they are actually extremely small. the drill bit above is only slightly larger than a sharp pencil tip.

Critical_Impact

I dont understand how people are shutting of their ds's. I havent got my superpass 2 but i've been poking in the SL-1 with a screwdriver and i cant get it to turn off. Is it possible to get a DS Lite to turn off while at the main menu by poking the wrong thing in the SL-1 hole because if it is, flashing a DS Lite is going to be a piece of cake/pie
