I keep on hearing problems with people bricking their ds lite. On gbadev.org, there is a huge 6 page thread discussing this problem, but there hasn't been a definite solution or procedure to tackle the problem.

Could any of you who have successfully flashed your ds lite please post how you did so? Also, those of you who bricked your ds lite. Tell how you messed up. I am sure this would benefit many.

I have successfully flashed both of my Lites without any problem whatsoever (PHEW)!! I used a simple piece of rolled up tin foil to flash with which so far has worked fine for me and didnt touche the dreaded 'other contact' in the SL1 hole that switches of the DS mid flash...

I succeeded too! It took quite a while until the progress-bar started to move, at least 15 minutes until I got up to 3%, but from that moment on it went up pretty quick and everything's working fine now...

I was using a screwdriver that did just fit in the hole for SL1, I should have used a smaller tool, but whatever.....it worked just fine.

I did the same thing, I actually went over to Loopy's house, the NESDS guy, cause he lives by me, and I used his passme, We just used a small screwdriver and did my best to keep away from the edges and just hit the SL1 pad with the notch of the screw driver, I felt releived when it finally hit 28% cause then i knew my DS couldn't be bricked from then on :)  but it did take a while and wiggling of the screwdriver to get it to continue, but when its all said and done, im super stoked with my new flashed hardware! Thanks Loopy, and thanks this forum!

Foil covered toothpick.  Flashed my cocaine white in 2 minutes, no problem.  Two lites now under my belt, several more to go in the coming weeks ;)

I just flashed mine and it was VERY easy.  I used a small flathead screwdriver that would barely fit in the whole DIAGIONALLY.

Piece of cake, it took just 2 minutes.

I think if people study the DSlite pictures, and look thoroughly inside the SL1 hole with plenty of light, they will better understand the problem. I guess people get so excited (or nervous) to flash their DS they just poke around blindly with tin foil or whatnot?  Maybe some of the confusion is SL1 looks like a screw.  It's not a screw it's two contact pads.  All that needs to be done is bridge the two contact pads and stay near the middle of SL1.  (Pretend you are playing the game Operation.)  Standing in front of a mirror is a good idea so you can see the progress screen.  There is no need to rush the procedure.  Take your time.  Understand what you are doing.

I flash a lot of DSes and recently I've been starting to do a few Lites, so I fabricated a little clip that goes over the battery and into the SL1 port with a little metal disk on the end. It works really well, especially since it can't move. Before I made that, though, I was just using a small screwdriver and never had any problems.

I'm going to flash my DSLite dark blue (buy from eBay, they said from Jap) when my Superpass2 arrives, may I ask whether anyone here has successed in flashing it, the Jap dark blue?
I have tested by shorting the SL1 by a flat-screwdriver when in main menu of DS Lite and it didn't shut down, I really don't want to mess it up ....  since others confirmed that the '3rd wave' of DS Lite dark blue can not be flashed.
Please share your exps on this......
TIA

At this time, there are NO unflashable DSes - provided you have the proper hardware.  The rumor going around about 'unhackable DSes' had to do with certain GBA flash carts having issues.  These have been resolved.

Thank you very much, darkuni. But there're some rumors being said that the DS Lite '3rd wave' will be bricked when you flash (F2/F1 fuse will be blown at the moment you short the SL1 and the DS Lite shut down, this happens because the DS Lite newer firmware itself detected this and shut down, even though you didn't touch the next screw when flashing), could you help, is this true or just rumor?

TIA

Highly unlikely. I seriously doubt Nintendo would put measures in place to only thrawt those who would use Flashme. the above would do nothing in the form of protecting the firmware from the use of something like the Passcard3 or Superkey so it seems unlikely they would single out the flashme method to mess with. MANY more people do the passcard/superpass devices then the flashme me. I honestly doubt Nintendo gives two $hits about DS piracy considering there breaking all kinds of sales records with the DS/DS Lite.
