What more does it do?

You can use sleepmode unlike flashme. Well you CAN use sleepmode with flashme IF you insert an orginal DS game into the DS slot which at that point uses the same battery power as using a Superkey. I also believe (will check when I get my superkey in the next few days) that you can adjust the new screen brightness levels with the Supercard inserted into the DS which you can't do with flashme at the moment.

Many bricked ones can be recovered through software.  Search the forums here.

I've done 4 so far, no bricks.

For those that brick their DS Lites, please post us some details...

1) What tool did you use?
2) Did you use a mirror or second person to watch while you shorted the SL1?
3) What 'passme' device were you using?
4) Did you lose connection when the power shut off?
5) What percent of flashing happened before the power shut off?
6) Was the DS plugged into hard power when you flashed?
7) USA Lite?  Import?  Color?
8) Did you try the 'blind' recovery mentioned elsewhere on this forum?

Thanks, maybe with this sort of information, we can better help others.

Damn, I'm worried.  I'm supposed to be flashing lites for two of my friends and me.  I've flashed plenty of normal DS's, but now I have almost no confidence.  I've already ordered a passme2, so I might as well try flashing it...  Maybe there's pattern we can find...

Its been confirmed that the new Firmware allows you to use the mutliple brightness's. All i can really see the passcard 3 as being is a way to not have to flash the DS which is adventagous for some users but its probably safer to flash incase you get hit by bricker software or something

Bloody well if i can't use either os those then i'll not be using flashme. The major reason i got the DSLite was because of the ability to have the variable backlight brightnesses.

Critical_Impact

Note my previous post. Flashme is adventagous because it allows you to remove the DS cart and allows you to restore your firmware. The brightness settings do work in the latest version.

And you can use ALITE on your supercard to change brightness on a per-session basis.  I actually use this ALL THE TIME vice using the firmware's brightness tool.

Long story short: if your gonna flashme the DSLite use something that is shielded up to the tip (like a rubberized paperclip) or open your DS and tape something metal temorarily across SL (see the japanese blog link below).

The metal shield of the GBA slot(?) overlaps the very edge of the SL1 hole, enough that if you touch it and SL1 has any current actively going through it the DS will shut down and possibly blow a fuse.

If flashme isnt far enough along to put the recovery code, it can be restored by swapping a chip (apparently) with a working DS.

Note: this is the inside of the DS, the underside of what you look at when you see the holes by the battery.

I don't mean to seem smug but I flashed my new US NDSL with no problems. The brightness feature works fine. I also fixed a "bricked" JP NDSL using the BIOS swap trick.  I used a tin foil tool (and a mirror) to flash them both. I just stayed close to SL1, didn't bother with insulation or anything.  I don't understand why even experienced people are having problems?  Maybe some people need to read this post before attempting to short SL1 . . .

I will offer cheap NDSL recovery+flash service soon. Good luck.

Short SL1.  Stay away from VR1 !!!

3) If you touch anything other than the SL1, specifically the metal point immediately next to it, you will power off.
I can even see the metal bit of the shield(I think, its kinda washed from the flash) peeking into the SL1 hole in your image above.

and that is the problem with moving your sl1 tool around... as I mentioned, taping a bit of metal across the SL1 contact temporarily (like in the images on the japanese site) is the best method of insuring no problems.

I cant confirm or deny that re-shorting SL1 after starting causes shutdown, have you seen this happen bitblt? Glad to know that the chip is indeed swappable :)

I can honestly say I have never had a problem flashme-ing a DSLite... in fact, I can honestly say other than images I havent even seen one (but have seen all the various problems people who havent done it should read about before doing it).
