Quote from: "IIatronachII"Wait a minute, can someone please explain what Superkey is? I thought it let you use Supercard without having to flash it. What exactly does it do?

SuperKey is a very good no-pass device... maybe the best one right now. However, as you've read... not everyone loves it's quirks and would like to use it to install FlashMe on their DS/DSL.
Don't mean to sound like a n00b, but what's a no-pass device. What does it do? And also is there any way of using Supercard on a DSL without having the risk of it getting bricked?
Can someone please answer my question :).

But you can't have both.
Use Superkey and risk (hypothetic) malware and don't play LAN download play.
OR
Download flashme v7 here :

take a toothpick, cut one end with cissors, foild it with aluminium paper, test your SL1 hole, then launch flashme and do the trick.

I was scared too, but it's really no big deal.
IMO it's rather impossible to brick your Lite using this tool.
And it's far easier than with the DSone.

Hmmm. I might practice flashing my DS Heavy a few times before I have the balls to flash my DSL :p.

I thought you could use the Superkey to run the flashme program and not have to short the jumper under the battery cover.

Keroro

Sorry but you still need to short the SL1 to flash DS with Superkey.

I got mine a few days ago and I really have no idea why people are still flashing when they have this product. It makes no sense. It works perfectly, just like your DS is flashed, and if you ever have to send your DS into Nintendo for some reason, there is no way for them to tell you were using a GBA flashcart.

You can't play download play party games with Superkey.
Read previous posts before posting, please.

And it would be good to stop paranoïa about Nintendo chasing flashed DSs owners.
AFAK there's no single evidence of thing like that.

Well they did change the coding which rendered the passme device useless and prompted the creation of the 2nd generation devices.

:|
I didn't see reports of gamers with handcuffs because they flashed their DSs.
And Nintendo may have upgraded the DS firmware for other reason.
To me it's nonsense paranoïa, but you're free to have an other opinion than mine.
No need to debate of it here.

So please, let's stay in the subject of this thread, which is Superkey.

I'm aware of that. But really, how often do you use that? Is it really worth the risk of bricking your DS trying to flash when you have an otherwise perfectly working Superkey? I guess to some it is, but to me it just seems silly to buy a Superkey and then flash your DS

Of course they won't "put you in handcuffs", but they may decide not to honour the warranty and send you a bill saying "you used a 3rd party firmware, therefore your warranty is void. It will be $75 dollars to fix your DS."

Are there lots of reports of this happening? No, but it's a very real possibility as flashcarts become more popular that Nintendo will want to crack down on them.

Some of us have friends to play with.
Since everybody doesn't have a SC and the right roms on it, it's common to use download play.
Exemple games are : Bust a move, Bomberman, NSMB mini games, Tetris DS, Machigaï Museum, and more...

But if you don't have friends it's silly to buy a DS, just buy a PSP.

A lot of "ifs" if you ask me.
You have the right to have your beliefs.
But making theories on nothing isn't making an argument.

This is no place to argue of flashme use. It's a personnal choice.
Flashing include some minor risks, it's known since the Original DS.
If you don't want to flash your DS, then don't.
Flashme doesn't have to be wrong for you to be right.

My point is that, for a use of the DS at the fullest, Flashme is the only way for now.
If limitations of the Superkey isn't a bother for your use, go with it.
Knowledge leads to better decisions.

ImmortalNinja

Excuse me if I got the wrong end of the stick but......

The only reason I know of why the lite with the superkey is unable to play the game is becase the DS hosting isnt sending the game with the RSA check.
Surely the Lite with the superKey should have been used as the host rather than recieving.
This way, when it sends the game out to all the DS the RSA will still be intact and all DS' flashed or not flashed would be able to download and play.

If all this is true then I think this makes the SuperKey superior to flashme in that you'll always be able to host games.

If its not then I apologise for my lack of knowledge about the superKey.

So basically a Superkey/Passkey can be used to flash the DS Lite's firmware?
And the DS Lite has to be flashed in order to be able to play multiplayer games?

I'm planning on getting a DS Lite with a SCSD + SK + 2GB SD in a couple weeks and am excited!! Definitely need the multiplayer function, so I guess the risk(if needed) will be worth it :D I wish the US came out with the black version though... :(
