I'm super illiterate. Can someone guide me?

I've done a decent amount of reading in regards to SD cards, Supercards, Passmes, Flashme, Passcards, MagicKeys, SuperKeys and so forth.

Buuut.. I'm so freaking lost, man. I mean, it's too much to take in. I don't know anything about these things, aside from what they do. While it all seems pretty easy (FOR THOSE WHO KNOW HOW) for someone who isn't involved in this material, it's quite difficult.

At the moment, I have:

- Australian White DS Lite
- SuperPass 2 with USB cable, thingy into PC, and a CD.

So.. where to next? I need to get a.. what, supercard and an sd card? Stick the flashme.nds (from the flashme website, which is down, which makes this SO MUCH MORE FUN) on the SD card, shove it into my supercard, then what? I'm really lost there.

Or am I totally missing something here? Please guide me, I'd really appreciate the help. My ultimate goal, obviously, is to flash my DS Lite so I can play NDS roms from any GBA flash cartridge - with this in mind, I don't really WANT a supercard. Or am I forced to get one in order to run flashme.nds and follow.. something?

I think you can see my road block. Please, if you can help, guide me.

For a start, you'll need a SuperCard. It's available in three versions:

- CompactFlash
- SD
- miniSD

Take the one that suits you (I went for miniSD myself) and buy a card for it. That's basically all you'll need. Oh, and an original Game Card to use with Super Pass.

Any original game card? I have 11 DS games.

Why does it need to be a suprcard, why can't it be a regular GBA flash cartridge with flashme.nds on it?

I have the option of buying a supercard which is miniSD, but I'm not sure if I want one. If I get that, I will need to purchase an sd card AS WELL.

Also thank you for your response.

Keroro

Supercards have the best compatibility for your purpose.
It's still cheaper than GBA carts for the same memory space.
Don't think, take the MiniSD.
Do it.

Okay, say I get a miniSD Supercard, and an SD card. Then what do I do?

I said guide me. I knew it was inevitable that I would need to purchase a forsaken SD and Supercard, but everything after that I'm unsure of.

Does flashing an australian DS Lite even work?

Keroro

Get a MiniSD card instead.
Don't forget a reader to put files on it.
For you to get the idea you'll have to :

Put flashme.nds and the iqsram thing, or passmebuttonwait.gba (what I use, it's easier).
keep the passme2 away for now.
Flash the SC ram from SCgba mode with the code of the game you'll put in the passme2.
Turn off, insert passme2, turn on holding XYAB.
Select flashme.nds file.
Get yourself a aluminium foiled toothpick in a straw (weird, I know).
Push XBXB.
Put the tooth pick in the SL1 hole near the battery until 100%.
Done.

I spare you reports of some risks of bricking or you'll go crazy in your head.
Whoops...

I'm pretty sure my explanations sucks.
But there a cool "how to flash a NDSL" thread around here for practical details.

What is passmebuttonwait.gba? Also, where can I get these files from?

This is the only instruction which I really.... don't understand. Can you elaborate?

Again, will this work with an australian DS Lite? For the most part, I undersand the flashing process. Except I don't understand where to get the files from to place on the SD cartridge.

Also, the reason I'm asking is because I saw another thread mentioning european DS Lites not being able to be flashed. Also, your description mentions PassMeII... when I stated I have a SuperKey2.

So yeah, I still have questions. But I have the basis of this down. I don't know what you mean by "with the code of the game you'll put in the passme2" - since I have a SuperKey2, not a PassMe2, and I haven't been old any codes.

I assume once the DS Lite is flashed, the SuperKey2 is irrelevant, and all you need to do is place NDS roms on the Supercard, and away you go?

Also..

Can someone tell me if this is fake or not?

Keroro

Wow, you're thirsty for knowledge. I'll try to help.

NDSLite isn't out in Europe for now.
(I counting hours until friday 23rd like a virgin, damn you Mario)
So I assume it's rumors and I highly doubt these to be unflashable.
Same for Australian version.
Paranoïa bullsh*t, I say.

To find the files, try google.
Or PM me if you're in despair.

By flashing the SRAM I mean a little program put the same signature that is the original game in the SuperKey2 in the SRAM of the SC, in order to boot to SC menu from the GBA slot.
Passmebuttonwait.gba is a little app containing signatures of a bunch of NDS games. I've never used ISQRAM.

And finally this SCminiSD seems to be a true one to me.

So I've been reading up. Why exactly do I need to flash my DS Lite, when apparently all I need is a SuperKey which will allow me to run NDS games from a supercard?

This way, I in fact don't need to flash it whatsoever?

Keroro

^^;
Yes, buy a Superkey.
It's about 20$ without shipping on good stores from HK.
That's what I do with my coming NDSLite.

Some says you risk to get a malware bricking your DS in a malicious fake ROM or Homebrew.
Flashme being able to recover from bricking, it's the only advantage of it.

In my case, I'll test the sensibility of my SL1 hole.
Because the big problem is that some DSLs shut off if you touch it wrong.
And if the power shut off early while rewriting the bios, your NDSL won't turn on anymore.
So if the power shut off while testing without installing Flashme, I'll go with my superkey being cautious of where I get things I run on my SC.
If not maybe I'll try to flash it a day I feel lucky.

Wow, so if I buy a SuperKey, I DON'T need to flash my DS Lite? Why do people recommend Passmes, SuperKeys, and all those other ones, when this one bypasses the flashing process entirely?

Should I get this package? It's from realhotstuff.com, and it looks very nice. A mini SD Supercard, plus a SuperKey. This way, I won't need to flash my DS Lite whatsoever, and I'll be able to simply place games on an SD card -> supercard -> DS <- SuperKey. Right? Right??

If so, awesome. Don't know what I will do with this SuperPass2 though..

Oh and also, do you need to do anything when placing an .nds rom on an SD card? For example, patching? Or if I use the SuperKey, won't it matter? Is the SuperKey the same as the Passcard (Passme3)?

moviecouple

Using a Passthrough device is a bit different than installing Flashme, but essentially have the same results.

Flashme would allow you to recover your system if you should download a bricking virus into your NDS. That is it's main advantage of the Passthrough devices, but it voids your warranty.

The older Passthrough devices (Superpass, Superpass2, Passkey, etc) needed to be setup with special files and there is a whole process to get them to work on your DS everytime you wanted to boot a game. With the NEW Superkey, Passme3... you just stick it into your NDS and that is IT. You do not need any special files or setup/process of getting games to load.

I myself have 1 NDS and 2 NDS Lites and have installed Flashme to all. If you take your time in installing it, you shoud have no problems. I believe Flashme is worth doing. Just makes using games that much easier. Now I also just received a Superkey just to have for the future... should I not want to Flash a future NDS Lite (Thinking about getting a black one).

I would say get the following (I have had almost every device out there)

MiniSD Supercard ($45)
1 or 2 GB MiniSD card ($30 - $60)
Superkey ($20)
USB SD Card Reader (If your computer doesn't have one) ($15)

That is all you really need. You can then decide on whether or not to use Flashme down the road. You will have that option since you have a Superkey.

Once you have that stuff... it is a fairly easy process on learning how to use the stuff and you can be taught in a few minutes.
