Okay, I'll start this post by bragging about how I only spent 100â,¬ for a brand-new Lite, thanks to this awesome rebate offer at the German department store Karstadt.  >>"The more you spend, the more you save!"<<

Rebate (20 â,¬ off your purchase) + Brain Training (that came with the Lite for free -sold on eBay)
= 100 â,¬ spent for my Lite

Now about my flashing experience:

First of all, since I still have the Superpass2 (used with Mario Kart sRam files), you can't fully open the Lite's screen, once it's inserted.... unless you want to damage the wonderfully shiny plastic casing- so I decided to keep the screens at a 90° angle   ' |_ '  (<< like that)

>>Booted up with the power-cycle method (of course)

Flashme (lite) didn't recognize the firmware, but since I've read about that happening quite a lot, I just went ahead.  (German Lite owners: don't be afraid of that message, okay?)

Using my wonderful tin-foil-spyke (insulated with some scotch tape around the tip) I made the flash right through, without losing the connection.

All-in-all:

I can't believe we ever got the "normal DS" because the Lite's screen is simply AWESOME!!

Now my gripes are with the buttons...  maybe it's because they're new, but I can't play well in games that require you to hold down a "run button" i.e. Mario, Donkey Kong Country etc.  Sliding your thumb from one button to another was WAY better with the flat, clicky buttons of the orig. DS

yey got mine too :)

But some things suck compared to the japanese one.
1.) No Handstrap
2.) No Screen "Protectors" (I know they were meant to be removed but they're cool)

After you flashed your lite you still had the brightness changing right?

I hope they will release a new FlashME soon which will fix this....
00t !!?

jconds

Yup, I still have all four brightness settings... so what do you want fixed? (the recognition message?)

Flashed it without ANY problems now. I really don't know what the people who bricked it did. I also have the brightness controll.
boah... the highest lvl is insane... I nearly can't read the menu ^^''

Because it didn't recognise the FW is it 100% that you will get problems when you un-flash the DS?

You used an older version of FlashMe, but it's easy to fix. Just find a FlashMe 7 file that has "Lite" in the filename. Drop it into your flashcard and run it. No need to short SL1 again. I think Darkuni/Shane's hacking page has it... if you have trouble finding the file.

Now I had ONE problem with flashing the lites of my friends... The screw was sometimes VERY hard to open. in one case we just couldn't do it :/
00t !!?

jconds

did you use a screwdriver that's a perfect fit?

the "PH00x40" is what Nintendo recommends on their service site...

i went to the flashme site, but couldn't find the FlashMe 7 with "lite" in it...can you post a link to the proper flashme for the DS Lite?  Thanks!! :D

Traspler

In the official page they ONLY have the newest FlashME... so just download
the normal one here: http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/flashme.nds
the stealth one here: http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/flashme_stealth.nds

Yeah we did... now she will bring the DS back and say she want one where you can open the battery part. I hope she will get a new one or they will open it mechanically for her...

Hamtaro

Hi folks!
I also bought a lite at Karstadt at release date *lucky*.
And also tried v7 from a mirror-site and got the lights ON-OFF prob.
The links at http://ds.gcdev.com/dsfirmware/ are dead...  :?
Can someone upload the flashme.nds or post a working link please?

Thanks in advance
Hamtaro
