The Undiluted Platinum team have released a video of the PSP ModChip Installed in a PSP running the "unhackable" 2.71 Firmware and running homebrew.

The UP ModChip is expensive but might give me a reason to buy a PSP.

The U.P. (Undiluted Platinum) PSP ModChip is a flash replacement system for the Sony PSPā,,¢ which allows the use of previous flash updates or custom firmware builds, This ability creates the opportunity to run unsigned homebrew code on even the latest Sony PSP Handheld Portable. There is no more need for Unreliable Hacked Firmware. The U.P. contains 32MB NAND flash which is programmable from a PC via USB Cable with user friendly software. The Dual-Boot Feature of the U.P. PSP Mod Chip allows you to boot from the PSP's Onboard Flash, or the one mounted on the Undiluted Platinum PSP ModChip; You can tell your PSP which Flash to use by a single button being pressed during power-up. Hold L1 during power up to boot from PSP flash, or dont hold anything to boot from U.P Flash Default. Since U.P. provides a secondary flash which the PSP can boot from, it can even be used to restore a PSP which has been "bricked". Every effort has been made to make our flash updater software, which will be freely available for download, both as easy to use and reliable as possible. The software also contains diagnostics which can be used by installers to determine if an installation has been successful or not

wow $100?!?! thats quite a bit...

hmm that totals too, lets see...$350 for a psp

but it is a pretty nice modchip, being able to run homebrew on a newer psp

Damn another 100 bucks?? No thanks. I'll wait another year or 2 before I get a PSP. By then the modchips will be waaaaaaaaaay cheaper, hopefully  :?

how does the mod chip work for ISOs?
do you just put the iso onto the root of the memory stick, and then select it from the memory card?

Nobody knows yet.

I'm not sure, but I think the video shows ISOs being loaded from a Duo memory stick.  I think it will work similar to older PSP firmware hacks, but work with newer PSP versions.  You will basically have the option to boot with Sony firmware, or boot with homebrew firmware. Perhaps someone with PSP experience (cory1492?) will know more about how this works?

Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it will require SMD level soldering.  I think it's a very interesting development in the PSP saga.  I expect cheaper ModChip solutions to follow.

i believe i can be of some assistance.

At this current time PSP users use a program called Devhook to emulate the 2.5 firmware. This allows access to all the cool things like web browser, new codecs for video & audio, ect. So with this chip you will be able to have 2.71 firmware (the latest so far) and run homebrew applications such as emulators. So now devhook came and allowed the ISO's to act like UMD's when they are put in the ISO folder on the Root of the memory stick. So apparently, with this new mod chip, from the video, you will have to have the extracted ISO and put a application in the Game folder to activate the game, however this is all i can tell from the video.

Any Questions?

I was just wondering because when the person selected each of the games that they had on their memory stick, it showed the picture for each game.  It made me wonder if you just put the iso on the root of the memory stick, and then just select it and the mod chip does what ever is needed.  So basically the mod chip is the same thing as dev hook in a way?  except it is built internally into the psp.

The modchip is like devhook, but takes it to a new level. It allows you to modify the firmware letting people customize it to their liking.

ReRuss

well the games were not loaded by DevHook tho cuz he had a few PSP games (not homebrew) on his games menu along with other homebrew apps , now the only thing not know is it was copied in normal files onto a mem stick , or if the mod chip will load ISOs in an ISO folder and list them with normal games , sorta like if teh PSP having EvoX as a dashboard (xbox) and default settings load games from "Games" , but modify it slightly to see games in other folders

If that didnt make much sense , it's like having Devhook built into the firmware

thats a good thought, i hope it is like Evox.

What people are missing is that this help non-modded 1.5 PSP's a bunch. all the devs put the chip in, and find a way to use the firmware or other things for non modded psp's. this is one big thing i was waiting for not for myself (i have a 1.5) but for devs to make great programs for the 1.5

It'll also be able to unbrick dead psp.

By itself it wont actually do anything. It just forces the psp to boot from the firmware on the mod-chip, much like booting the lite with flashme firmware instead of the orginal (but different in that in this case rather than the orginal chip being flashed the firmware is on a seperate chip)

Until now most home-brew and apps would only work on the 1.5 firmware because it was full of holes. This will work for all psp as whatever firmware the psp has is bypassed.

How the modchip handles iso's is entirely dependant on what custom firmware you have loaded.
I believe the Epsilon firmware is programed to load iso's direct from the memory stick from the game menu.

From what I gather:

Current no mods:
1.5 PSP -> Load devHook4.1d -> emulate 2.5 firmware -> load ISO
(Iso's may need to be patched, and devHook configured)

Undiluted platinum
Epsilon PSP -> Direct boot of iso from game menu.
Because the firmware has all the features of 2.7 incoporated the iso doesnt need to be patched or system need cofiguring.

I will be getting one soon as soon as my local solder dude gets them in.
Will have more then I guess....

Well, if money isn't a concern then some people might be interested in purchasing a Pre-Modified PSP ($449.95) . . .

(personally I would enjoy the challenge of doing it myself)

scootdog

Money is a concern for me thats why I have a DS, Supercard, and Dialup  which wouldn't work too well with the ISO's.

Looks like people now have kernal access to the PSP with firmware 2.6. Since 2.6 and 2.7 use the same security it's just a matter of days/hours before 2.7 is broke also. Whats this mean? It means all the bad ass shit you can do with a PSP at firmware 1.5 you will be able to do with any current PSP firmware version. All the emus all the game loaders, all the homebrew. I feel sorry for the poor fucks who are trying to sell the PSP mod chip now. The mod chip is crazy expensive and the hardest mod to install of any console ever made and now you can do all the same "features" of the mod chip for FREE with no hardware moding at all. Glory day! There is also now a usb exploit to allow us to run game isos off a pc hard drive so no more being limited to 1 to 4 gigs of space.
