Yeah, mess with the video bitrate and max bitrate, and also lowering the framerate might help a tiny bit.  As onekelly said, changing it from stereo to mono will reduce the size of the audio by 50%, which could be a substantial amount.  If you use DPGplay to demux an older DPG file (DPGtools 12 or below), you'll notice that it splits up the DPG file into the various files that make it up, one of which is the audio file.  Take the filesize of that and divide it by 2 to find how much space you'll save with the audio.

If it helps at all, I find that when using the METEO video converter for the GBA, a bitrate of 50 to 100 is perfectly acceptable, and even a bitrate as low as 15 or 30 works well enough for casual viewing (though it will be too blurry to read anime subtitles for instance).  I don't know how well this will work in Moonshell however.

Hi

Thanks, I'll try that.

What about pixels? Is it possible to lower the amount of pixles, and would that help? One would think it would help a lot.

Do you mean how blocky things are?  Because that's the bitrate.  Unless you mean the resolution, in which case yeah, that would help out.  Not sure how much, but it would decrease the filesize.  Try it and let us know how much it affects it.

Hi

Yeah, I mean resolution. Only problem is, Batchdpg doesn't seem to have a way to change the resolution.

From a techical point of view for the best quality you will always end up with a LARGE file size!

You have to really decide if you want small end result file size and poor quality video or large file size with very good quality :)

you can/could mess with the bitrate levels for max and min bitrate but it may take a few attempts to get a quality you are happy with... you can reduce the sound to mono to keep a slightly higher video bitrate and choose less PASSES but its swings and roundabouts of what to sacrifice to get the best  results :)

It also varies from using movie to animated movie you can get away a bit more with hacking down the max and min bitrates with an animated cartoon than you can with a blockbuster ;)

Ive been using 384 for min bitrate and max of 512 and 4 passes and its given me good results so far but im more used to converting AVI > DVD format and uing much higher bitrates and upto 6 or more passes ... most users of DPG stick to 2 pass .. for me 4 pass is personal preference :)

frame rate also varies things too more frames = bigger output :)

I use 18 for animated stuff and upto 22/23 for movies  :)

Finally ...other factors are the original source video if its poor quality then your going to get a poor result so always check the source first and see if its clean picture or not... theres nothing worse than grabbing something quick not checking ..wasting a few hrs converting to whatever only to find its rubbish and was rubbish to start with ..its fustrating when that happens :(

I have moonshell 1.6 on my R4 and when watching scrubs the audio and video go out of sync. I have gopstop, dithering both at 0, and i have audio/video sync on as my highest priority.

What should i do to fix it?       thanks

wedgehop, is the original out of sync in the same spot? What dpg program did you use to convert the avi file?

unknown dpg format. ID=33475044

anyone can help me??
thx a million

dantheman

That means that you're using DPG files converted with a newer version of DPGTools than your current version of Moonshell accepts.  Upgrade to the latest version of Moonshell to fix this.

rene_initial, welcome to scdev.org!

What type of SC or other card are you using? I am in the process of updating the tutorial on the first page of this, but in the interim, i can make you a premade if you do not know how to. Or you can get it moonshell 1.71/dpgtools1.31 from here.

rene_initial
