You need an operating system with multi-tasking to do this. In order to be as fast as possible, all DS apps run like they "own" the whole hardware, running therefore as fast as possible since they are the only app on the CPU(s).

Since homebrew is not really THAT demanding, one can imagine a "homebrew-OS" that could allow this, kinda like the assembly shells on the Texas Instruments calculators. So, you would boot-up the HomebrewOS, and run the apps you wanted to - made specifically for the HomebrewOS.

Unfortunately, such an undertaking would require massive knowledge of the underlying hardware - since it is undocumented, by the time this OS is made possible, we will all be playing on our DS Advance consoles in 2009.

i'm using beup and the official ds browser a lot lately.

i've been thinking it would be awesome to have a beup with a built in browser, just one extra tab at the bottom that opens the browser window, so you can talk to people on msn and surf the web simultaniously.

it should even be doable if someone came up with the source for a homebrew ds browser. it wouldnt really be multitasking, just one program that can do both.

but it would be like heaven for me

Well Moonshell can listen to music and look at pictures at the same time, but it lags and stuff. I'm guessing if you have non demanding things you might be able to do it.

hmm i don't think so. i couldnt wait so i just bought the official browser.

but i think a homemade browser should be doable (there is a project going on named okiwi, right? not sure if they're still working on it), because who needs an extra ram pack when there's a 1 or 2 GB sd card that could be used to store temp data on it.
