I just got back from standing in line 11 hours and the Wii rocks.  I got 2 I am selling one on eBay and one keeping.  I also cant get the blue dvd ring to light up.

Rocky I found in the manual that the "ring of light" will blink when the console has recieved new data over Wii Connect 24. Guess it doesnt just stay on.

The European release is way off yet - glad you got yours.  I'm not camping, no.

I can't afford one yet. In fact, It's gonna take a LONG time for me to save up. I have a paper round on which I get paid £5 a week.

I have a few questions about saving.

-Can it save to regular GC memory cards?
-Can you save to regular SD cards or do you HAVE to buy the SanDisk Wii cards?
-Are the SanDisk Wii cards any different than regular SD cards?
-Does Wii have it's own memory card type device?

Thanks.

AnalogMan

Only Gamecube games can save to Gamecube cards.

Any SD card will work, SD, Mini-SD, Micro-SD (with adapters) all work on the Wii.

Probably not, no.

It uses 512MB of internal memory, OR the SD card as an extension of it's own memory. It has an SD card reader built in.

@rocky: The blue DVD light only lights at certain times, like ejecting a Game and at system start, or when it's on, but without a game inside so when you put the game in, you can see where it is if the room is dark. During actual game play it is off.

======

My experiences: I played Trauma Center first (after the system updates and making a Mii and looking for that Opera browser download, which isn't out yet).

Trauma Center is good like the DS game, I have a habit of moving my little red pointer dot to the tools and clicking a tool instead of using the nunchuk to pick the tool. I'll get over it though. Other than that, the game isn't AS precise (it's pretty precise though) so in leeway, the game gives you more room for error to compensate. Could EASILY sit in a chair or on bed and play this accurately with small precise wrist movements. I don't even have to be directly in front of the TV, my bed is off to the left and it reacted just fine.

As for Wii Sports...
Tennis = Win. One of the easiest and fun. You Mii runs to the ball automatically, you just swing backhands, forestrokes, overhand, etc to smack the ball. Having a little trouble keeping it from flying out of bounds though.

Baseball = Okay. Once you get how to swing the bat (while swinging over the plate, make sure to keep the Wiimote parallel to the ground with buttons facing UP). Pitching is easy, hold various buttons to change the type of throw, then just chuck the ball. Running bases is different, your ball will always be caught (unless it's a homerun) and once it's caught, your turn is over, no throwing the ball around. The game calculates how many bases you ran based on how long it took for someone to grab the ball.

Bowling = Potential. Bowling is nice. Bring the Wiimote up to your chest, press and hold B, swing arm back, swing arm forward, release B. Easy... except it seems to always curve left..... and the further right I side step, the stronger it curves left. Haven't figured out that one yet. My GF could on;y get good ones in when she went waaaay to the right so the ball was practically riding the gutter lane then it would curve in left to the pins. May be my sensor bar or something...

EDIT: Note, after a few practices I got a good game down now. I think what it was is I was bringing my arm up after the swing in an arc to the left (being right handed) and you need to swing in an invisible center line with your TV.... I do great now.

Golf = Potential. Again, a game that will be good when control over the Wiimote is mastered. In this, you swing the Wiimote (duh) like a golf club. However, the harder you swing, the farther the ball goes, and if you swing too hard, the ball goes high and the wind effects it horribly, throwing it way off. It'll take a while to get used to just how hard to swing. Putting it hard too as you could swing one way for a practice swing (all swings are practice swings, swing while holding A to do real swing) and get just what you want, then on the real swing have it not register or be super hard and the ball goes flying.

Boxing = Suxxors. For me anyway. You punch with the Wiimote and Nunchuck to throw your fists. Punch while they're vertical for a head shot, thrust them forward horizontally for a body shot. Hold them vertically in front of your face to block your head, hold them horizontally by your waist to block your body. While holding Vertically if you tilt both left or right, you dodge left and right. Good game, I just CAN'T seem to get the blocking down for some reason. Other than that, it's really good.

EDIT: The above was written about playing with my GF. The computer is sooo much easier it's almost pathetic. No need to worry here kids.

As well as the games, there's a training mode to help you train for the Wii Sports games, and a Fitness mode where you get rated on a fitness age, like Brain Age. Things like, 'Hit 40 Tennis Balls' 'Hit as many home runs you can', etc.

Over all, a good experience. Played from 2AM till about 5AM, Woke up not too long ago and my arms... don't ache, but they do hurt when I move them :) (is the large movement kinda guy).

Quote from: "popinadam"From what I hear there'll be plenty to go around within the next month after the release date. I don't feel like waiting in line for it even if there wont be a whole lot of them. I know i'll get it before the year is over. I work at a Sprint store next to a EBgames and have the option to go "test" out the system as much as I want. I also work by a Target store too and there's a whole 10 people waiting out front "camping". One person decided to bring over his X360 and play that while he waits, lol. So good luck to those who wait it out. Enjoy yourselves!

So yea, I said I didn't feel like waiting in line right? Well fo r some reason at 2am this morning I was compelled to go get one. Waiting in line for 6hrs at a Local Wal-Mart and was 14th in line of a total possible 18 Units. Lucky me I guess. As I drove home I passed the Target as well and could still see the 50 + people waiting for them to open at 9 and once I got home went to bed. I think if it were for any other system other then the Wii it wouldn't be worth those 6hrs.

My blue light has never been on.  When i turn the system on it flashes for about a quarter of a second.  Is it broken?

AnalogMan

I've only seen it one when I turn it on (also blinks) and then again when it's downloading messages from the internet. Try doing an update and see if the light fluctuates. I'll look more into it in a few.

I dont remember ever seeing it on even when doing stuff online.  My friend said his lights up when he turns it on.

DeVS

Mine also never turns on except for a few flash when downloading from Wii Connect. Not a big deal really, I was just under the impresion it remained on all the time.

i was thinking mine was broken because of that too, hopefully they'll be a firmware update soon to choose to have it on 24/7 or not.

waited 5 hours in line, was number 10. picked up zelda. went home at 8 to play....went to a different store to try to get red steel/another controller....only left with red steel.

Looks like there was shortages for controllers here, and consoles i guess. The 100 our town got was probably sold out by 10:30. (1 store opened at 8, one at 10)

Same thing with the controler here too, couldn't get an xtra. Went a town over this morning and was able to find the "Wand" part at a Wal-Mart but no "nun-chuck" to go with it. Got the wand since we can use it for 2 player Wii Sports instead of sharing 1. Got the retro controler too and like it alot. Bought the old school NES Zelda and been playing it. Love the "Hybernate" feature of the virtual console.
