I chose NDS over PSP

NDS with Supercard seems incredible...but what about PSP? For me i chose dint choose PSP cos Sony is getting tough on protecting its system from hackers - no much home brew. The starting kit of NDS with Supercard, microSD and superkey will definitely cost more than PSP and Memorystick. But looking at Supercard's ease to do homebrew, long term wise its still worth it.

Also, i can get games on my PC with much better gfx and gameplay than the PSP. First Person Shooter and racing floods PSP as much as they flood my comp, while NDS unlokced opportunity for more relaxed and causual gaming like Mario and Yoshi.

I used to have a Palm PDA, i knew gaming with touchscreen is going to be different, thus again NDS.

But what bother me is... PSP has got lots of built in multimedia system, including movie/audio player, browser, and its new firmware supports Flash 8.0 and possible to emulate Windows 98, play GBA games on it. Its gfx is no doubt good, though its nothing compared to PCs.

NDS's gfx look a bit like Playstation 1, and its hardware is only somewhere near the N64. And worst of all everyone says DS games are "childish", "not serious".

Did i make a wrong choice?

If you shop around you can get that whole setup for less than the price of a PSP alone. I did.

As for the rest, it's entirely subjective, but let's just say I know about 20 people with a DS, and about 2 with a PSP. And they seem to spend more time playing on my DS than their PSPs :P

I think Nintendo products will always be somewhat "childish".
But the 3rd party developpers on DS are really active.
And you have a real variety of games.

With the supercard, the DS is the right choice.
I'm partial coz I choose it.

But I have a friend who bought a DS after his PSP.
He was deceived by the poor number and variety of games, has already an Ipod for multimedia, and was never to go on multiplay with it (coz everyone need a copy of the game).
I have another friend who's enjoying his PSP. But it's because he's good at manipulating the firmware and all these things to emulate NeoGeo etc.

You won't regret choosing DS iMO, especially if you bought a Lite one !

in Singapore, stuff aint as cheap. My NDS Lite cost $225, my SuperCard Lite Rumble cost $75, my Kingston MicroSD 1GB cost $50, and passWe3 cost $38.  And thats in fact the cheapest i can get, i even went Singapore forums and asked around, those pricing were around the lowest already. Unless im cheated? In fact a lot of Singaporeans NDSians are surprised how i got that cheap. Its $388.

A PSP will cost $270 and a 2GB Memory stick cost $60, assuming PSP roms are much larger, a 2GB will then suffice. In fact some games takes 1+GB already. A 4GB memorystick cost around $300+ here. It its $330 for the PSP.

My sis got the same setup as we, we bought it together. My sis is 11 and im 18. Im surprised that i can actually play Mario Kart, Yoshi and Spyro with her, where normally gals gets away from my usual HalfLife2 and Need For Speed from my PC.

Which makes me very childish...but no doubt its fun. It can be easily as fun as PC games.

Why don't you order at online stores? I got my SC Lite Rumble @ psxbox.net for about $32 including shipping (airmail, got it 2 weeks later).

Im afraid i dun have any credit card or any electronic money transfer. And its a disgrace at this time in the century i have no experience with internet purchase, simply because i cant find or apply for a valid card.

Thats USD32, which is about SGD$50. Shit man...I was hastily choosing my NDS and bargaining, and rushed to another shop to get my SCLR, should had bargained the price as well...

But locally, the cheapest normal SuperCard SD is selling lowest $60 (i bet i ran round lots of store asked for discount and stuff), so i guess well.... haiz...

My friend got this new PSP around the same time as me. I had completed and tried lots of top DS games on SD card. And he (a techno savvy) is still waiting for hacks on the new 3.01 firmware and motherboard. Sure he can browse the web in the mean time...which im jealous of...

Moonshell and the other PSP media functions are on par. Im waiting for a good browser to come or some hack about Opera.

I'm using PayPal without owning a creditcard. I can just transfer funds from my bank account to my PayPal account and use that. Hmm.. we're going offtopic here.

cygig

hmmm nvm its off topic. I shall check out w my local bank on this. Thanks bro!

and....i have to say ThankYou to supercard....really.

Yeah, just open a PayPal account and choose Transfer Funds. You'll get a bank account number of PayPal in your country - if it's possible that is. Good luck  :)

I bought a DS, and enjoyed it! a year later I got a supercard and played it 3 times as much!

A month ago or so, I bought a PSP with a giant 1gig Memorystick, and I love it. I play them both alot, but since the PSP is new to me, I play it more (makes since, huh) I am also good at playing with the firmware, I have a special edition firmware that allows ISO's and SNES and GBA and all that stuff, so I'm entertained well.

So either choice is good!

But one thing bothers me with the NDS. Theres not really anything awesome being developed at the time (the only one I no of is VGMDS, by Globoeil! :D ) and homebrew seems to be slowly dieing. But with the PSP, theres a little steady homebrew coming, but most of it is hacks to manipulate future firmware versions.

But, its all good in the end, they have bad sides and good sides, so just get the most out of it and get both! (Christmas anyone?)

what do you think? :D

The PSP is one of the worst things I've invested money in. If you want multimedia, you should get a Pocket PC and not depend on a game system. I suppose DS games are... childish... but honestly they are more fun than NBA Basketball.

I say you can not go wrong with Nintendo.

QuoteDS Lite: always a good decision

i own both portable consoles and this is my judgement:

PSP is the dopest, coolest, and has the best GFX
NDS is the most fun, best gaming experience, original game concepts.

So for action and GFX get a PSP. For adventures and MAD gameplay in games like Phoenix Wright and Another Code.... get a NDS FOR SURE!!

Nintendo seems almost unbeatable on the Adventure game section.. didn't find a PSP adventure game to steal my heart yet... on Nintendo DS i know several adventures that stole my gaming heart.

But if you want to rock GTA like games in full 3d rendering, get a PSP!
