OK. I just thought it might be nice to have a concise step-by-step guide for people in the future that might want to do this... instead fo having to scroll through an lengthy topic.

Ok, this simple (applies to SCDS, since I think less people have a mk4 mini):

1.> Get a DS-Link & an unflashed DS-Lite
2.> Go to the DS-Link website and download FWBKUPV1.zip, unzip and copy to the microSD that you put into your DS-Link
3.> Get a SCDS and Mk4 Dump
4.> Boot Mk4 dump with the SCDS (on the unflashed DS Lite) and select to run slot1. When prompted, swap out with the DS-Link.
5.> When in the DS-Link menu, run the FWBKUPV1.nds and backup the firmware.
6.> Now take out the DS-Link and put it in a FLASHED DS-Lite
7.> Run FWBKUPV1.nds on this device, and restore firmware.
8.> Done!

Sorry if it is vague, I'm tired. This is a quickie quick guide, but if you know somewhat what you are doing you should understand. If somebody wants to write an in-depth, detailed guide, please do.

So is there no way for the DS-Lite Unflashed firmware files ripped with this tool to be created into a No-Flashme solution for some reason? How come this hasn't been done yet?
I personally don't feel like buying a DS-Link to unflash my ds or really don't want to have to send it to bitblt (no offense). Is it something that probably can be used with the m3 and sc slot-1 solutions as well eventually you think?

Maybe. It would first take someone to supply the firmware, and second to supply it to somebody that has the ability and wants to create a tool.

Supplying the firmware will obviously be the easy part, now who is it have to donate money to in that devs donation thread to get this done?

zektor,

Thanks for the quick guide. I think most people will now figure out how to do this... or atleast get the basic idea of what to do.

Donate to Loopy.

I don't think it would take someone as talented as Loopy to patch noflashme with the raw dump created by by the DSLink tool. In other words I expect someone will patch noflashme soon.

I am venturing to guess the same. I would imagine that now that a raw dump of the firmware is so easily obtained, that somebody will write up a tool that will write it to the DS Lite's flash.

That would be nice to use flahme/no flash on the fly.

I would also lik to see something created to swap out different skins on the fly too... now that most of the new Slot 1 cards have skinable programs.

Now off to track down an unflashed DSlite. Well... I was gonna buy a black one anyways. Guess now is as good a time as any.

Just wanted to add that I've unflashed a lite this morning using this method, thanks bltbit.

Wonder if with all the advances in the Slot 1 cards (no pass feature) if most people won't even flash their DS anymore ... or take their flashed ones and unflash it like we we are talkng about? Would be interesting to know what most people would do knowadays.

I just thought of 1 questions and wasn't sure of the answer.

Does it matter if I have a Japanese DSLite and try to unflash it using a U.S. DSLite's firmware?

Well, I flash for a few reasons. First and foremost is so that the DS-Link boots directly up. The DS-Link is great in that you see no health & safety screens, nor do you have to boot to the DS menu and select the card to boot. Nope, you plug it into a flashed DS, turn it on, and are immediately greeted with the DS-Link. I really like that.

Other than that, (and I know alot of people will debate this) there STILL is a possibility of malware. It has been done before, and if somebody wants to be an evil person it can certainly happen again. It can be disguised as anything. With all of the unflashed units nowadays (everybody using nopass slot1 devices), it is now the perfect opportunity to introduce one and cause some major damage. Ok, maybe the DS savvy will not be affected (because we check what we download), how many noobs do you think will go ahead and run something that will brick their DS and slot1 card? I can imagine quite a few.

Also, download play seems to be working on all games with a flashed DS. That is still a great point, even tho the slot1 cards are getting a little better with this on unflashed units.

There is also the fact that it removes health and safety screens. Not a requirement, but I like that.

Finally, there is a certain satisfaction with flashing my devices. It kind of makes them special :)

The only reason I would unflash would be to take advantage of a Nintendo warranty. There have been reports that Nintendo does not check for flashme, but why take the chance. Other than that. I can see no real reason to unflash.

Wow. So my DSLink is actually worth a bit more than the Opera hack. :)

So... what would happen if you put DS firmware on a DSLite or vice versa?
 like cream soda...
