DS-Link and unflashing a DS Lite...

Quote from: "Gleasonator"Wow. So my DSLink is actually worth a bit more than the Opera hack. :)

So... what would happen if you put DS firmware on a DSLite or vice versa?

Heh...putting the DS firmware on a Lite would probably be equal to putting the noflashme on a DS-Lite (screwing it up). Putting a Lite firmware on the DS? Well, probably nothing, but I wouldn't try it....

QuoteDoes it matter if I have a Japanese DSLite and try to unflash it using a American DSLite's firmware?

Good question. I don't know. All I can say it try it.

It shouldn't be any problem since you can flash European, American and Australian ds's with the same flashme. Although I could be wrong if flashme doesn't rewrite the whole firmware but just the essential parts.

Well... I'll keep my Japanese DS as a flashed unit and redo my American one as the unflashed version.

I don't think it would take someone as talented as Loopy to patch noflashme with the raw dump created by by the DSLink tool. In other words I expect someone will patch noflashme soon.

Well, as soon as already done by me. But IN NO WAY I consider myself as talented as Loopy

My "hack" (that word is too big to describe my work, but...) is ready for testing. If you are interested in unflashing your NDS Lite, or have a faulty unflashed one, PM me. It is essentially the official noflashme.nds containing a *proper* original NDS Lite firmware (EUR one, although I think this is irrelevant because i.e. FlashMe firmware is the same for all Lites).

I don't see why this could fail (appart the inherent risk of unflashing, because you will be flashing an original firmware which doesn't have the recovery feature of the FlashMe one).

If after flashing, the NDS Lite is not working properly (which is the case using current official noflashme.nds), you could always reflash it again with official flashme.nds.

So except for a fatal error (shutdown while shortening the SL1) when using nofmlite.nds, there is no more risk than using official noflashme.nds. But this one is supposed to *properly* restore an original firmware for the NDS Lite.

So again: I'm not claiming this is going to work. I don't know. I need someone to test it. This is going to be risky (as much as using official noflashme.nds).

I just say it should work, but we will never know if nobody tries it.

I've been working on this for a while (as I've said I'm in no way as talented as Loopy). I usually post on No-Intro Project Forum:

Great job if your hack works. I'm surprised you haven't tested it yourself yet. I don't recommend distributing it until it has been properly tested. If it doesn't work correctly then it will surely brick someones DS Lite. The reason why noflashme sort of works with DS Lite is because it uses a DS phat firmware dump. With your hack it will either work perfectly or completely destroy the DS Lite firmware. I will crash test your hack if you want me to. I know how to recover if my DS Lite gets bricked. You have PM.

I want to try out kazumi213's noflashme... but if my DS Lite gets bricked, how can I recover it bitblt? I have a Supercard SD and a Supercard DS.

You need to take two DS Lites apart, the "bricked" one and a working one. Then you need to borrow the BIOS module from the working DS Lite to boot Supercard on the bricked DS Lite. After the Supercard is booted you then need to hot-swap the "bricked" BIOS module back and run Flashme. That's the procedure in a nutshell.

Fix your NDS Lite after FlashMe failed.

If the chip is socketed it would be easy as pie. If not..well..bust out your solder iron!

Ok. I'm going to wait for bitblt feedback. Being experienced enough, he is the ideal tester so no more testers are required.

Thanks all for your interest.

this exciting indeed :D I am keeping my eye on this thread :D

I can confirm that your hack works. Nice job kazumi213.
