Well, I ordered this card on a whim the other night:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820134409

Newegg actually carries TWO Kingston microSD models, but this one happens to be the model made in Japan.

Copied over my current DSLink card contents to this card and booted up. First I tried Dawn Of Sorrow. To my surprise, the intro sequence does NOT skip and runs perfectly. I have not seen it run perfectly since my old Supercard CF :) Very happy about that...

Moved on to Portrait of Ruin and played it for nearly 3 hours. I tried everything to make it freeze. It does not. Works flawlessly, saves flawlessly, no freezes whatsoever.

Finally, I tried the latest Moonshell. I posted elsewhere that I was having an issue with currently playing music making some sort of skipping when adjusting volume or navigating the card contents while in playback. It no longer does this.

So, it is true. Media does make the difference. PoR was the only game giving me an issue with the DSLink, and that issue no longer exists. I would say that makes the DSLink 100% compatible to date with all rom releases :)

Thats great news for me!  Maybe I'll order one of those soon.

The DSLink team did state (I read somewhere) that they recommend Kingston cards in their device. I should have taken that advice a long time ago :) Finally, I can play through PoR without an issue...ahh..

Damn, well I found a Sandisk one for real cheap so I don't regret getting it.  After my Sandisk runs everything (other than PoR) reasonably well.  Even the intro for Dawn of Sorrow is fairly good.

It hit or miss. I did the samething and order one from newegg but it was made in taiwan.  Works great im my m3 simply.

sneef

yes, it is hit or miss. .i got 2 taiwan kingstons, and they both rate very very slowly on speed tests.. but they do work in m3 simply. lol

jelbo

Gah, I want to have one of those as well. They're very cheap in the US but no site or eBay seller mention where they're made..

uzumakishade

does newegg ship to canada? if it does i might be picking this up

I ordered one and got the Taiwan version.

I have the taiwan version in my M3 simply and no issues at all. My format at fat16 with 64k cluster.

jeffreagin

No issues as in you are more than an hour in to Castlevania POR?

sneef

I definitely have issues with the taiwan version kingston.  I'm using 512MB though, so I don't know if the specs are the same as the 1GB.
It seems ok formatted to FAT with 64k clusters, but compared with kingmax and transcend cards (66x and 80x, respectively) it is nowhere near as good.  Even my sandisk outperforms the kingston slightly.  I have a Toshiba card that is made in Japan, and it lies somewhere in between the sandisk and the kingmax.

So far, the 80x transcend is definitely the best that I've found.  Kingmax comes in a close second.  These are both 512MB cards, as the transcend 80x only comes in 512MB, as far as I know.  Just thought I'd type out what I've found thus far.

How is Tony Hawk DHJ on this setup?  I have a Kingston MicroSD Japan coming and I just wanted to know how well it'll work just to plan out what games to put on my DSLink, which ones to put on my Supercard.

If you don't want to take any chances with Kingston get this:

http://www.toshiba.co.jp/p-media/english/sd/microsd/index.htm

Bascially from what I know, Kingston OEM their Japan made SD cards from Toshiba, Kingston in turns rebrand and repackage them for markets outside of Japan. While TOSHIBA generally manufactures them for their own Japanese market thus why it can explain you won't see as many Toshiba cards compared to Kingston outside of Japan but you could still find one if you look around.

They both have the SAME manufacturing product serial on the card:

Saying that they recommend Kingston is like saying that they recommend using MicroSD...  Kingston outsources all their stuff, you will have a very difficult time finding any consistency.
