I downloaded wifichat.nds and uploaded it to my G6 Lite using the G6 U-disk Manager, but whenever I try to run it I see only white on both screens of my DS.

Is it not compatible maybe?

You don't need to pass homebrew through the U-disk manager, just copy the .nds file to the NDS directory on your G6 Lite.  If I ever get white screens on homebrew I can usually fix it by appending a loader with dslazy.
