Backing up gba saves?

Is there any way to backup gba saves without one of those connector things to the pc?

I have the r4ds and the supercard lite.

Technically, it should be possible with a slot 1 card but I don't know if there's a software to do it.
size=8]DS3, FM7, SCmSD1.80/2.60, WRT54GL with Tomato Firmware[/size]

Zygarth

It is possible if you have a supercard CF.

Zygarth, how does that work?  The Supercard would already take up slot-2...

DumpSRAM incluces a mode that attempts to let users do this, though I haven't had success.  Basically, you hold Select before pressing Start, which makes it pause after each step.
1.  Start DumpSRAM and select which .sav file to write two.
2.  Hold Select and press Start
3.  Eject Supercard, insert GBA game (one that uses SRAM)
4.  Press start to read SRAM
5.  Eject GBA game, insert Supercard (if it doesn't reboot the DS that is...)
6.  Press start to write SRAM to .sav file

My Supercard rebooted when re-inserting normally, but by pushing the right side in first and going really slowly, I managed to get it reinserted.  However, only garbage data was produced.

But yeah, something like a reverse REIN on a slot-1 card would be ideal.

My suggestion would be to get one of those linker things.  A Flash2Advance linker only costs about $12, and with the shareware FlashManager program, you can read and write to/from actual GBA cartridges.  There's a slight problem with EEPROM saves, which I've explained at http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/FlashManager

EDIT:  Chishm has apparently made a utility for this, though it requires a slot-2 card with GBA support.  http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/SendSave/index.html#cart_save
I haven't been able to use it due to the Supercard rebooting the DS whenever I reinsert it, but other devices should work.

EDIT:  I managed to re-insert it, and the save wrote correctly.  Still, it's becoming harder and harder to reinsert it without rebooting, so out of fear of my GBA slot's safety, I won't be using this tool very often.

Mailyfesux

does it need to be compact flash or can it be sd card?

and how did you reinsert it without having it reboot? its happening to me also

dantheman

It works fine on my miniSD card.  I only know about it because right after posting here, I saw a post by Chishm on GBAdev stating that he updated this program to work with all cards supported by DLDI (though slot-1 cards obviously won't work as they don't have GBA support).

It's really tricky to get the Supercard in there without rebooting, but it's possible.  Push the right side in first and go really slowly.  It doesn't work all the time for me, and I'm afraid it's screwing up the contacts on the inside, so I've stopped doing it.  I would recommend a F2A cable if you have a GBA, as it would be easier to use.

Mailyfesux

what do you mean by screwing up the contacts?

dantheman

I'm just worried that inserting the GBA cart one side at a time is causing damage to the electronic contacts of either the DS or the cartridge.  I have no proof or anything, so it's just paranoia.

Mailyfesux

It still keeps rebooting. lol. i did it once, but it was during supercard menu.

i guess its time to make a gba saver on slot 1. lol. I wish someone could code it. it would be really useful
