R4 just arrived

Hey guys,

I just got my R4 today. And so far, it is an excellent card. Everyone needs to get a Slot1 card. It is so nice to not have to write roms to a card anymore. You just drop the file right into the folder, and that's it.

The roms load up quickly as hell. I wasn't impressed by these Slot1's at all when they were first announced. But, they really are the way to go now.

I have a question about the memory card. I've already put PoR onto my memory card, and played it for a while. This was the first game I tried, because I've read some people have a lot of trouble with this game, especially on the Slot1's.

So like I said, the game is running fine and everything. But, I guess I was suppose to format the memory card to FAT16? Well, how do I do that? I put the MicroSD(can't believe how tiny that card is) into the card reader. And it pops up on the computer, but it doesn't give any formatting option or anything. So how am I suppose to format it?

And, does not formatting the card to FAT16 before I actually play games on it hurt on it at all?

I really know nothing about this, since I've never had a flash card that required a memory card.

So any help would be very appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for any help.

Well my Slot1 Pass device has just conked out and I'm still living with a bulky Supercard SD sticking out of my DSLite. Maybe I'll have to make the jump.. I just don't like the idea of shelling out yet more cash..

And, I'd have to buy a mini (or is it micro) SD. Can't they make an SD slot one device, you know, just for me?

Yeah, I definitely recommend making the jump to a Slot1.

And as for your Passcard, I really don't know. I've never had any trouble with mine, so I really don't have any advice. They are relatively cheap though. I believe there's a couple for sale really cheap on the MarketPlace board. So you can always pick one up from there.

EDIT: And back to my question. I was told just right-click on Removable Drive, and there's a Format button.

Well, I clicked on it, and it was already set to FAT32. And there's only two options under the File System tab, which are: FAT, and FAT32.

So is the FAT option referring to FAT16?

Thanks.

dont fix something that isnt broken, i mean if it works i'd leave it, i also have r4 and i have never formated my microsd because it works well

h8uthemost

Yeah, this sucks now. Before I formatted it, PoR was running just fine. I mean, it still is, but it's freezing at the first portal now. And it wasn't doing that before.

And it doesn't freeze on it everytime, just here and there. I tried formatting with FAT, and FAT32. So yeah, I should've just left it the way it was.

So is there any kind of fix this? I own the actual game too. But I would rather not have to pop out my R4 everytime I want to play it.

You know there's kids on these forums ... you shouldn't be showing stuff like that here!

That's why it never took off.  If you want it to not stick out, you have to use microSD.  It's the only media small enough to allow for the rest of the internals to fit in the area of a normal DS game case.

What is this ugly thing? A slot1 device?

EDIT: Oooh. It's a slot1 for SD cards. I see.
