As you might have seen in another thread, I received an R4. And like many others, I have problems with PoR. I got a 512 Sandisk. And PoR locks up at the portals. Besides the portals, the game runs perfectly. But, I ordered a 1Gb Kingston. So, hopefully when it gets to me, it's a Japanese one.

So, I threw PoR on my G6. And I played it for about two hours. And not one single problem. I thought for sure it would lock up at the portals. But not at all. No freezing anywhere else either. I bought the game when it first came out, so I didn't really know about the problems some memory cards have running it.

Then, I threw it on my girls DS-Linker. I played it for about an hour. And again, not one problem. I thought it would have locked up at that first portal, like it does on my R4. But nope, it ran flawlessly.

So, as all of you probably know, the DS-Linker and G6 Lite has internal memory. So, why does this game run at full speed with internal memory, but not with most external memory.

Is the memory they put in these two flash carts, the best and fastest? And, would the safest thing to do for now, is to buy flash carts that have internal memory? I still can't get over how good that DS-Linker is. For a knock off, it's excellent.

So, if anyone knows the answer to why internal memory is faster than external, I would love to hear it,

Thanks for any info

I had a problem with PoR at first, my solution was to make sure the card wasn't completely full. Leaving about 5-10% of the card empty. I used a similar solution to get Ouendan working on my DS eons ago after the supercard SD firmware finally allowed games larger then 256mbit.

Yeah, I read that in your post in one of these threads. So I took your suggestion and tried it, but it still locked at the first portal. I even totally cleared my sd, and had PoR as the only game, and still locked up.

But, I'm only using a 512mb card though. You're using a 1Gb right? Maybe that makes a difference. Hope it will solve the problem when my 1Gb gets here.

Thank for your help./

Yeah, my 1Gb Kingston came today, and unfortunately, it's one of the Taiwan ones. So, I tried PoR as the only game on the card, and it still locks in the same spot.

So, I'm surely not going to keep buying memory card after memory card hoping to get a Japanese one. Isn't there any sites that sell just the Japanese Kingstons? I have searched and searched, and emailed sites, and none of them can guarantee I'll get a Japanese Kingston.

I just hate the fact that my R4, can't run one game. Because if there's one game this memory card can't run, there's bound to be others. Maybe I'll just stick with my G6. That flash cart plays every single game I throw on it, and full speed.

I can confirm that the 512MB is different than the 1GB.  I have 512 Toshiba and Kingston Japan (both are actually the same card) and the 1GB is different specs.

funny thing is with transcend its the other way around.  the 512MB is 80x.  the 1GB is not very fast at all.

Well, I actually just found an auction for a 1Gb Japanese Kingston on eBay. So hopefully they aren't fake. And is actually a Japanese one.

If I knew owning a slot1 card was this much trouble, I wouldn't had bought one, lol.

I just received my 1Gb Kington MicroSD Made in Japan from eBay a couple of days ago, and it works flawlessly.  All of the memory cards I have ordered off eBay (A LOT) has worked flawlessly.  I don't see what people complain about, I have real ones as well and they perform the same.  Perhaps it is the fact that I don't buy from people with a lot of negative feedbacks or ones that are obviously faked in China...

As for your first question, I believe the reason internal memory works better than external is because of the fact that the internal memory is built-in.  It is part of the card, therefore the card is already contructed around it.  The microSD cards must be read, then written to another section, then played.  In addition to that, it also takes other resources for options such as FAT or FAT16.  I still like external memory better simply because of the convienience as well as how I can use them again in the future.

That's cool. Now I feel better about my eBay order. I have heard a lot of people complain about the memory cards on eBay. But, that was mostly on the PSP side, when they were ordering Pro Duo's. So, hopefully my Japanese 1Gb Kingston, comes just as advertised.

And the 1Gb Kingston Taiwan I got today, I didn't even bother to format. But, I've read that you really don't have to format these Sd cards, as they should come formatted already. But, I doubt formatting it would make PoR would run any better.

I think if you format to FAT and 64k clusters might help just a little bit, but not enough to run smoothly.

As for eBay, did you buy from a powerseller?  Because if you did, chances are they sell fakes more so than the people with only 1 microsd.

h8uthemost

Yeah, I bought from a powerseller.

And how do I format it to a 64k clusters? This is the first flash cart I've had, that has external memory. So I'm not too familiar with formating these yet. I was told to format the memory card, you right-click on the Removable Disk in My Computer, and click Format from the menu.

Well, I don't see an option for 64k cluster. So could you explain that a bit better?

Thank you for the info

EDIT:

Hell yeah, I formatted it to a 32K Cluster, and tried a different dump, and it is no longer freezing at the portal.

Over at MaxConsole, they posted this as a fix for PoR.

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=45894

So yeah, it seems to work. I got the dump from Xenophobia group, and it running perfectly now. I'm going to keep playing until the next portal, and see if it still does well. Seeing as the portals were the only thing giving me a problem.

EDIT AGAIN:

Ok, I did some further testing, and formatting it to FAT, and a 32K Cluster, on worked on my 512mb Sandisk. It did not help PoR on my 1Gb Kingston Taiwan.

So, anyone that has a 512mb Sandisk, and is having trouble with PoR, formatting it to a 32K Cluster definitely made it run on mine.
