i have plenty of anime on my hard drive, and its taking up alot of space so i want to burn it onto dvd to watch on my dvd player, but i want more than 4 eps on a dvd and customizable menus, one program ive been able to get 10 -15 eps on depending on size of them was VSO but my ps2 doesnt recognize them as a playable dvd, so i need something it will recognize, any suggestions?

sneef

its gonna be hard if PS2 is your intended player...  If you have done the memory card exploit on your PS2, you can run the 'reality media player' on it, and transcode the files to MPEG-4, which will allow many episodes on one DVD-R.

Oh, but I just realized you said you want menus, etc.

I guess your best bet would be to use a seperate encoding software, like maybe tmpgenc and choose a lower mpeg-2 bitrate, and then author your own dvd using their (or someone else's) dvd authoring software.  Adobe Encore is pretty good for authoring too.

Sorry if i'm not making sense. I just got out of bed..

well my ps2 is what i got downstairs for dvd watching which is why i mentioned it, but its most likely to watch on a standard dvd player that plays dvds ( for when i go to friends or cousins house) also the menus i want to be able to make them look somewhat like official menus because i like the look of them and hate having cheap looking menus

for burning to dvd, try convertxtodvd, its by far the best and easiest

bear in mind that the ps2s built in dvd player does not handle dvd-rws very well

if your ps2 can run homebrew i would reccomend SMS, as it is great for playing divx/xvid

uzumakishade

where can i find SMS? i use a swap magic to run backups and homebrew
and i already use convertxtodvd which used to be known as VSO, but i dont like the way it handles menus, they dont look as profressional as others, if i could do the menus more professional with a different program and still fit around 10-15 or more on a dvd then i wouldnt mind
or even somehow do the menus in a seperate program and convert/burn them with convertxtodvd

with you on that one I use it for xvid/divx episodes to dvd :)

just change the settings to high quality for best results  :)

Also dependent on episode size I would stick to a max of 4 per disk if they are around 300mb in size and just 2 for 700mb episodes  :)

That way you will get best quality results  :)

Lastly i do not use the INBUILT burn option but opt to use NERO or BURN@ONCE for burning the resulting TS_VIDEO folder  :)

If you want fancy menus ...

a) This will eat into your avail disk space depending on how intricate you want them to be with fades wipes an animated scene selects :)

b) Its a bit more messing about .. currently I Favour DVDLAB but you need to convert the xvid/divx file to a workable file such as mpg or mpeg 2 or vob as it does not work with xvid/divx :(

not only that it takes a whole lot longer  :(

currently with convertX it takes me about 3 hrs to do 1.4gb of files to a dvd with a 2.8 ghz processor and 1gb of ram  :)

remember more RAM you have and FASTER processor you have the faster the conversion  :)

I just used Nero for the whole process. I find it's menu creation system to be easy while still looking very professional (animated buttons, screen transitions, etc). Of course, I haven't used it for DVD rips that contain multiple languages, that may be more difficult.

there is no way you could get 10-15 episodes on one dvd except by burning them as an divx to dvd, then using SMS on a ps2,

you can also put ur divx vids onto a usb pen drive/ hard drive and use SMS to play them too!

Actually you could fit that many on using a very high level of compression but would result in a BLOCKY messy and jittery playback  :(

but again also depends on what size (in mb) they are and aspect ratio the source clips are :)

(Anyway more to the point ps2 hasnt got the greatest dvd playback ability even with original dvds it trips over with quite a few retail disks same with the xbox :( )

always best to use a DEDICATED dvd player for best results  :)

you can buy xvid/divx capable home dvd players for next to nothing now anyway and you CAN watch as many xvid/divx clips/episodes you can cram on a 4.7gb single layer or 8.5gb dual layer media  :)

Finally use good media once you discover a good one try stick with it  ... as cheap an cheerful usally means exactly that CHEAP! and usually crappy media that cannot even be read after just one playback  :(

anymore questions just ask :)  not very up on supercard stuff but in my element with dvd/cdr burning lol

tennisgy

I always use a program called Roxio easy DVD, but its not a free program :(  It has the menu's and converts files to standard DVD as its burning.  On the other side I have a great DVD player that plays just about anything, so normally i just burn them directly w/o converting.

I use tmpgenc and use setting of Xdvd at lowest resolution for Cartoons, works a treat and you can get over 5 hours on one dvd.

I also use tsunami's dvd creator on the processed files to make nice professional looking menus

now if tmpgenc could convert .flv's I'd be happy,

Hi

I wish I hadn't broken my dvd player.  :(

Well, the best way is to get a Divx player.  That way you can burn like 25 episodes into a disk normally and just watch it.

sneef

he wants menus, which is why myself, and dai_uk told him to use tmpenc, and their dvd authoring suite.

now 2 people have told you about it.. check it out! :)

uzumakishade

well i gotten about 10-15 eps on a dvd before using convertXtoDVD and it worked fine on my dvd player, so it is possible, it didnt seem blocky/messy/choppy/whatever you wanna call it to me
Also whats the cheapest i could get a divx player for, as an alternative since i need a new dvd player for the basement anyways, and with the divx player or even SMS do i have to convert my eps in anyway so subtitles dont get cut off?

EDIT: for the sms how do i play the videos? do i burn them on a seperate dvd and then just swap it after?
