G6 Real Review

I don't doubt it will have the proper drivers for DLDI.  I'm just making observation based on the review.  As of KNOW it is worse than the DS-Linker.  Later on it may over take it and win over a lot of the market.  But for now it looks like the DS-Linker did when it came out, horrible homebrew but 100% compatibility and it also worked with opera.

DeVS

Got a hold of the G6 Team about no homebrew working and there was no user error on my part, they stated they would be releasing a FAT Lib shortly for homebrew.

Well that's cool. So, if the writing speed is close to that of a microsd card, than that still means it's a hell of a lot faster than the write speed of the DS-Linker, or any of the other clones. That's a plus.

Thanks.
Setup:
White Lite
Slot 1: CycloDSx2GB Kingston Japan, Supercard DSOne+1GB Nokia(J), 16G G6 DS Real, 16G DS-Linker, R4x1GB Kingston(J),
Slot 2: G6 Lite
PSP: 3.40 OE-A

Bottom line is that it is nothing special. It did not make me go "WOW" like the G6 Lite did and again a M3 Simply/R4 beats it easily.

Thanks DeVS for this review. I think G6 team will fix these download&play and homebrew problems, and will improve a lot these promising flashcard, as we have today the very nice G6 slot2. DS-Linker and its clones can start to be worried with this new one G6, only if it has a competitive price (but I don't think G6 will be as cheaper as DS-Linker and its clones).

gbatemp gave that a really high score.  while it does nothing more than a ds-linker I do'nt get it :?:  :?:

Ya me either. I like and respect shaunj66 alot, but the G6 Real is not a 9 out of 10 when the cheat function is broke, download play doesn't work properly, the OS Gui is not calibrated properly for use with the stylus, the OS is slow and sluggish, and there is no homebrew at all that works on it. I would say the G6 Real is no more then a 6 out of 10.

Personally, I am shocked at the GBATemp review, for a little while I thought it was a joke...  I mean, they post up a review before the release date, and throughout claiming that they "might" release different things like better download play and DLDI support.  And after all the big fuss about how download play isn't working and that DLDI is not out yet, they give it a 9/10....

DeVS

There is a new firmware out for the G6 Real. I tested it and it does not fix any of the issues such as download play not working for certain games, touch calibration being off, ect. There is no change log and I have not received an email from the G6/M3 team so im not sure what is diffrent in this new v1.2 update.

i love my slot-1 solutions, but honestly, if they made a 16Gb G6-lite (slot-2) I would buy it.. recently been using my G6 again, and the performance and menu are very nice.

too bad the "G6 Real" didn't continue that tradition of excellence

Actually, I just got my G6 Lite today, and so far I am SO VERY IMPRESSED.  I think I'll write a review soon.

sonicwind

the G6-lite was sort of like the DS-X.  High priced with the small memory but looked really nice.  A while back before Dragonminded quit and then came back he stopped M3 support which owned G6 owners.  When you write the review can you extensively test homebrew?  Thats the only fault I found before was the homebrew compatibility.

PharaohsVizier

Well for now, I'm just enjoying it, it is nice.  It'll probably be a couple of days before I start initiating the real tests.
