Personally I hate opening and closing the Wii, I can't imagine doing it every time there is an update.  Personally, I would go with something like the WiiKey, perhaps their support is crap now, but at least you don't need to open it up all the time.  And it runs almost all Wii games...

You place the socket outside the will so that you don't have to open it each time.

So you'd have wires coming out and leading to a socket outside of the Wii or possibly leave it in a whole drilled into the Wii?  Personally, I still think the WiiKey team will come out with an update sooner or later.  Maybe I'm a little too optimistic...

DeVS

Guess you never used an Xecuter 3 or Viper mod chip, lol.

Yep thats what people are doing, a wire going to the outside of the console just like the old Xecuter 2 and 3 chips for the XboX and the Viper series of mod chips for the GC.

i didnt know people were putting X3CE chips on the outside of the xbox. Why would they want to do that?

The Xecuter 3 has an lpt cable that goes to the outside of the XboX so that if you had a bad flash you could reflash the chip with your pc. Same for the Viper.

Are you talking about the 5 or 6 switches panel? along with the HD and network lights? I actually flashed one with the 6b bios and should have used the the regular. It was handy to switch over to the other position to reflash from backup.

Never seen that before, was that something sold with the x2 or x3, or was it older style?

Now the x3ce have this external switch and you use the network cable to flash and update, also depending on the switches you can flash or backup, on the fly bios configuration, etc..

That was the X3 Pro series. Also the Wiikey have now announced they will release an update soon, but they have said the same thing over a month ago.

Before they were saying the update was taking so long because they were working on code to block clones, now they say they are not gonna try to block clones, it all sounds fishy to me.

If you can I would hold out for a couple of weeks and see how things shake out. Hell by then we may even have a real mod chip come out based on the nand dumps that have hit the net.

I hope the WiiKey update will be good enough to warrant the wait...
