Quote from: "uzumakishade"where can i find shops like that? do you think people who advertise in the papers about installing modchips would be able to add said socket?

I live in Ontario, canada know of any in that area?

they will add the socket as well? and it would probably be easier to just buy a premodded wii from them instead of buying the wii and paying for the installation seperately right?

Edit: is there any stores (like futureshop or something) i can buy the programmers for the chip? or would they sell one with the pre modded wii?

uzumakishade

is that the cheapest i can get it for?

DeVS

You could look up the parts and make your own cheaper.

I put together a list of common pratfalls during wiikey installation - shared what bit of useless information I have:

Hopefully someone will find it useful.

Ya im disappointed in the Wiikeys support so far, but it is the best when it comes to no hassle use if they ever actually come out with the bios update for it. The WiiFree is great but it's for people who aren't afraid of tinkering with the unit and actually doing some technical labor when it comes to updating the chip.

I guess I'm not understanding comments like these.

What, exactly, does the WiiKey NOT already do that you require that warrants an update?

I get the audio streaming problem on GCN games -- I'll give ya that one.

But what else am I missing? :)

Naruto for the Wii.  Huge dissappointment when it didn't work.

But region free isn't one of the things they absolutely need to have down, but it'd be nice.

DeVS

That one is a MAJOR one espicicaly when that was an advertised WORKING feature. The fact that it doesn't work and they stated a bios update was days away from being released and now here it is over a month later and still no fix, thats poor business.

Couple that with the fact that they refuse to answer emails or talk to their customers on the "official" Wiikey forums, there customer support has been shit so far. The Cyclowiz and Wiinja currently have more WORKING features then the Wiikey.

>_>
anyone know how to resolder a de-soldered point on the wii's board?
O

DeVS

If you lifted the pad off trace it's solder trace back to the drive chip and solder the wire directly to the drive chips leg.

charachu

what if the trace is gone?
could i still just solder the leg?

because i have the diagram for the alternate points but if the connector that ran from the chip to the board is missing, will my wii still run?  or is it just a shiny white paperweight now?

Ya it will still work if you solder it to the leg of the drive control chip and that solder pad is burned off. Worse case scenario is that your back where you started as even with the pads burnt off the Wii will operate as normal.
