what do you guys think? i cant decide between the two and ive read both topics and find that both have great features, i really like the different speed settings thing that EZV has though, argh so hard to decide! lol any input from people who own both cards or one or the other?

PS: wheres a place to get a 1 or 2 gb microsd card for cheap that ships to canada?
PPS: winsunx has both cards for $33 which is pretty cheap to me and i dont mind paying that but is there any place cheaper? (highly doubt tho =/)

Ummm why not check for M3 Simply, I am waiting until I see ALL the solutions for now.

I just emailed the M3 place and they said that the M3 Simply supports download play.  Thats a huge plus for me!

sarah

M3 simply and R4 are the same card

I predict download play will be the same for all Slot 1 cards, it's just the way the DS works.
Any claims otherwise are just a sales pitch to the gullible.

I can spot the suckers a mile off!

QuoteHi ,

Yes , it support the download play without use of flashme on other DS .

Thanks!

This is my reply from the M3 team when I emailed them asking if download play works.  I don't think they would lie, would they?

Let me explain how it works

1) Slot 1 card takes the .NDS rom data from the microSD card
2) Slot 1 card software patches a few addresses (so it can store save data) and passes data to DS
3) DS sends data (with a few patched addresses) to second DS
4) Second DS checks "hash" of recieved data, sees it's been changed, freezes on white screen

Some roms don't have the "hash" and will work "Metroid Prime Pinball", "Point Blank"
Some roms have the "hash" and won't work "Mario Kart 64", "42 All Time Classics"

Flashing the receiving DS might stop the checks, nothing else will.
I'm pretty sure this is what is happening, or something very close to it.

PharaohsVizier

Maybe it works the same way as the DSX?  I mean they work for most games right?

sarah

Google is your friend
http://wiki.scorpei.com/index.php/DSX_compatibility_list

The DS-x appears to have far far worse compatibility problems than any of the other slot 1 solutions.

PharaohsVizier

WOW....  that was informative.

So what you are saying is that this generation will not have download play support?

What about that video review?  The guy said download play works.  I don't see why he would lie.

He didn't say it would work for ALL roms.

and m3 team has 'lied' to me on many occasions.  danny is friendly, but not always 100% honest.  They are salesmen, after all.

Well R4 = M3 right? So I'll try download play from Clubhouse Games to my brother's non-flashed DS.
Give me 5 minutes!

EDIT
Ok, Clubhouse Games doesn't work. The receiving DS freezes on the Nintendo logo.

Um... if they're the same then what's that extra chip pointed out on the R4? The red arrow?

EDIT: There's actually two differences I see.

 like cream soda...

PharaohsVizier

I think the second difference looks like a glob of solder bridging 2 connections.  I wonder what that does...

Gleasonator

Oh you're right.... that is solder... or at least it appears to be. What do you think the chip is then?

It will most likely be an Actel field programmable gate array (FGPA)
Its a quick way to produce a custom processor without going to the expense of getting a fab to produce it.

None of them appear to be using the latest IGLOO series which use much less power, I guess the DS has plenty of battery power to spare and the older ProASIC series is a bit cheaper.

Also a very cheap and easy way to rip off someone else's development work. Makes you wonder why all the slot 1 solutions look and operate in much the same way doesn't it?

The smarter designers will produce a PCB with less components on it, which gives me the impression that the R4/M3 is the latest design or the best design team.
