Got a wii last week... pirating/hooking up to PC?

Hi

I got a wii the weekend before last weekend (the weekend of may 19) for my birthday.

Soooo... a few questions
_____________________________________________________________
First, I don't have anywhere near having near enouph skill (say that three times fast) to get a modchip into my wii. Okay, so I can't pirate wii games, need to give nintendo some more support anyway. Gamecube games on the other hand...

The fact that the wii can play gamecube games is actually one of the more exciting features. While a big gamer, I've never owned a non-handheld gaming consol, unless you count the PC. With my wii, I have the oppertunity to play Super Mario Sunshine, Legend of Zelda- wind waker, and super paper mario... that is, if I had the $$ for it.

I can't pirate wii games, that's been established. But what about GC games? Is it possible to play pirated GC games on the Wii without using a modchip? I'm guessing the answers no, but it's worth a try.

Now here is probably the more important of my questions. I spend most of my life in my room. But I'm not allowed to have a TV in my room says my parents. I don't really like watching TV, I prefer activities where I actually have to do something, like playing videogames. But the wii... has to be hooked up to a TV to work.

Is there any way to hook my wii up to my computer? My dad told me that he's sure there isn't, and I'm pretty sure he's wrong. I need some way of playing on the wii in my room.

I'll jump at a way to hook the wii up to my windows XP computer, but I have an old windows 95 computer sitting in the corner of my room that I would prefer to use. The reason that I would prefer to use my windows 95... it's a long story.

Thank you  :)

Need a mod chip to play copied Wii and GC games. You can use the XCM-V Box to hook your Wii up to your pc monitor through the usb port of your PC: http://www.xcm.cc/v_box.htm or the Adaptec GameBridge here: http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=011171&cid=CC.344

Hi

Yeah! And there's no way to do it with a windows 95 computer right?

I think the only thing you can use a windows 95 machine for is a big ass calculator. USB drivers and such didn't come out till Windows 98SE.

Hi

What about the printer port?

Oh, and windows 95 can emulate the snes quite well I believe, so it's a big calculator and an snes and an nes ect.

Which of those things that you mentioned below do you reccomend and where do you reccomend I buy it from?

Not sure where to order em, google for a shop, though neither will do you any good without USB ports and a printer port wont cut it.

He could alway grab a cheap USB Pci adapter card. They work just fine in Win 95 as long as u have the most recent service pack where USB support was added.

Hi

So CAN I get this working on windows 95 or will I have to settle for XP.  :?

It is theoretically possible to get 95 to do what you want, but I'm pretty sure the voodoo rituals you would have to perform are not worth it. A quick Google gives this: http://www.usbman.com/Win95%20USB%20Guide.htm

You can always use a PCI TV card which would probably have W95 drivers (which I did for my son's N64- but with W98) or a converter box which will feed directly into the monitor and avoid the need for the computer.

Hi

Wait, even if I got usb working on windows 95, what about the drivers for the wii-computer-adapter? Wouldn't the drivers also have to support windows 95?

Also, does anyone know what the windows 98 system requirements are? I may upgrade the the computer to windows 98 if that would make it work. Or... maybe even windows ME? what are ME's sytem requirements? (I have a feeling the system requirements for windows ME are too high though) How can I find out (on windows 95) my computer specs?

Last, this is really wierd. Windows 95 isn't supposed to support usb right? Well check this out. My windows 95 computer has a usb port? What's up with that?

This is taxing my memory a bit, but I think there was a service pack of 95 that was sold on CD as "Windows 95 with USB support" or some such. And, yes, you would need drivers for the device too once you did get the USB port itself to work. So if you get all the right drivers, make sure Mars is transiting Jupiter and sacrifice a chicken, you might get it to work. 98 Would be better on the USB port side but you might have driver/software problems as well. ME is evil, stay away from it. :) Keep in mind, too, that video encoding/displaying is no minor feat and many Win95 era computers won't be up to it. Finally, many TV tuners/encoders(old ones and new ones) have latency problems. They take time to decode and display the video coming from the card and this causes a delay or a second or so between what gets into the tuner card and what gets to your monitor. If you're just watching TV you don't care but if you're playing a video game you obviously can't have your display being a second behind your game.

So, my advice is to use XP and make sure you get a tuner that doesn't have latency issues. I can tell you that Hauppage WinTV cards do have latency, so you don't want that. Beyond that I dunno.

Lastly, when you do finally get this all together be prepared for it to not look very good. Game system to RCA cable to PC monitor leaves a bit to be desired.

Happy birthday, BTW.

EDIT: Check out the thing Fexo linked to. The eBay thing. That is a nifty little gadget and would look better than a TV tuner.

reading from the top post re windows 95 ... you wouldnt be able to use it anyway to burn the disks no doubt ..because fat32 file structure cannot cope with file sizes over 4gb ..... and as most games consoles today use hi density or dvd or mini dvd type disks with large capacity storage it just wouldnt work trying to dump them to hard drive and burn them back :)

your XP system if not set up correctly will also be running as FAT32 you can change it by clicking Start menu, and point to ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, and then click COMMAND PROMPT. Then to convert the C: drive, for example, to NTFS, type:

CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS and hit the ENTER key.

this will convert your drive to NTFS file stucture which will handle file sizes over 4gb  :)

note this is only for XP or NT (windows 2000/2003) systems not for 95,98 and ME  :)

That thing does not have a very good discription.

#1.Am I correct that it plugs directly into my monater, eleminating the need for a pc
#2 In the discription, it keeps saying VGA monter rather than monater. VGA?
#3 This world work right?
#4 My monater is very old, though it works great. It won't matter right?

Aside from this E-bay thing, what kind of "problems" would I experiance?
