They claim the UMD drive is faster so games will load faster.

But the question is "How much faster?"

It won't be as fast as loading game ISO's from a memory stick PRO Duo. ;)

Well, supposedly the internal memory goes from 32mb to 64mb in the new PSP, so yes, it loads faster.

There's better battery life, and for those of you who wanted a better D pad, the new PSP has a slightly better D pad as well.

The TV output, to me, makes no sense, what's the point in portability if you're just going to hook it up to a TV later? I suppose it's a nice extra, but there's probably other things they could have worked harder on. Just kinda backwards to release all those ports of PS1 and PS2 games, and then expect people to play those ports on a TV screen again.

The wifi switch has been moved to the top.

Overall, a disappointment, imo. Definitely not the upgrade from DS Phat to a DS lite.

Here is some more info on the new unit:

- Its TA-085 PCB motherboard is homebrew-conducive.
- USB can be used to charge the battery.
- The battery has been shrunk from 1800mAh to 1200mAh, but retains hour rating.
- Old PSP remote is not compatible.
- WLAN switch has been relocated to top.
- TV-out cable is not included.

WTF? The main feature they are pimping (beside being thinner which is not a "feature" imho) is the TV-Out capability and they don't even include the cable to make this feature work? Only Sony.....

Yeah, but its harder for Sony.  The PSP was always better in the DS Phat in almost every way, IMO, so Nintendo had a lot more things they could improve on.  Sony didn't.  I'm not saying the PSP is a perfect system, it's not, but it was better then the DS phat in most catagories.  Most people will tell you that.  The reason that Sony didn't move out of its original PSP design (like adding in a second analog nub) is that, IMO, because they still want people to with the older PSP to  buy newer games.  If they do a complete redesign, it wouldn't be the PSP slim, it would be the PSP 2.  This is IMO, of course, but I think it makes sense.

I think you are absolutely correct.
